Bengaluru, India (Metro Rail Today): Prime Minister Narendra Modi has flagged off the new 13-km stretch of Purple Line of Bangalore Metro Rail Project from K.R. Puram to Whitefield on 25th March 2023 in Bengaluru, Karnataka. The stretch will be open for public from 26th March 2023.

"The Prime Minister has had a special focus on the development of world-class urban mobility infrastructure across the country. In line with this, the 13.71 km stretch from Whitefield (Kadugodi) Metro to Krishnarajapura Metro Line of Reach-1 extension project under Bangalore Metro Phase 2 was inaugurated by the Prime Minister at Whitefield (Kadugodi) Metro Station. Built at a cost of around Rs 4250 crores, the inauguration of this metro line will provide a clean, safe, rapid and comfortable travel facility to commuters in Bengaluru, enhancing the ease of mobility and reducing traffic congestion in the city," said official release issued by PMO.

"Upon arriving at Whitefield (Kadugodi) Metro Station, the Prime Minister first purchased a ticket at the ticket counter and then took a walkthrough of the exhibition put up on the occasion. Krishnarajapura is an inter-change station; it will help people travel towards Whitefield and Baiyappanahalli once the entire Baiyappanahalli to Whitefield line gets operational. In future, after the ORR-airport (Central Silk Board to Kempegowda International Airport) line opens, people can also use the station to travel towards the airport and Central Silk Board, Electronics City or Jayadeva Hospital.

The other changes are Mahadevapura to Singayyappanapalya, Hoodi Junction to Hoodi, Kadugodi to Kadugodi Tree Park, Channasandra to Hopefarm Channasandra, and Whitefield to Whitefield (Kadugodi).

According to plan, BMRCL will run five trains on the line with a frequency of 10 minutes, and the time taken to travel between two destinations will be 23 minutes.

The 13.71 km K.R. Puram - Whitefield metro stretch is part of the extended Purple Line from Baiyappanahalli to Whitefield (15.5km). This stretch has a total of 14 elavated stations between Baiyappanahalli and Whitefield.
