RVNL wins ₹339 crore Civil Contract for Pune Metro Extension Project

Pune, India (Metro Rail Today): Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd. (RVNL) has clinched the title of the lowest bidder for the construction of a new 4.519 km viaduct, extending Pune Metro's 16.589 km Purple Line from Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) to Nigdi (Bhakti Shakti). This significant development falls under the Pune Metro Phase 1 Extension project, approved by the Central Government's Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) in October 2023 with an estimated cost of Rs 910.18 crore.

The construction contract, known as Package P1A-C-01, is a crucial element in expanding Pune's metro network. The viaduct will facilitate the extension of the Purple Line, providing enhanced connectivity between key locations. The Central Government's approval in October 2023 paved the way for the subsequent bidding process, attracting bids from reputable firms in the industry.

Out of the qualified firms that participated in the bidding process, RVNL emerged victorious with a winning bid of Rs. 339 crore. The bid, reflective of RVNL's competitive pricing and expertise, positions it as a key player in the execution of this vital phase of the Pune Metro expansion. The bid, submitted for the design and construction of the elevated viaduct, covers a length of 4.519 km, stretching from CH: (-)1079.899m to CH: (-)5599.298m between PCMC and NIGDI (Bhakti Shakti) on the North-South Corridor of Pune Metro Rail Project- Reach1 – Extension.

While RVNL secures the contract for the viaduct, the construction of three elevated stations en route at Chinchwad, Akurdi, and Nigdi is pending. A separate tender notice for this aspect of the project is currently awaiting release. The timeline for the construction is set at 130 weeks (2.5 years), emphasizing the importance of timely execution to meet the growing demands of Pune's expanding urban landscape.

RVNL's successful bid aligns with the collaborative efforts in the Pune Metro Phase 1 Extension project. The intricate network expansion involves strategic partnerships and contributions from various entities.

It's worth noting that back in December 2023, LKT Engineering secured a contract worth Rs. 1.11 crore for providing Detailed Design Consultancy (DDC) services for the extension's three stations. With nearly three months elapsed since the contract award, anticipation grows for the publication of the stations' construction contract tender notice in the coming 1-3 months.

The Pune Metro Nigdi Extension stands as a testament to the city's commitment to modern and efficient public transportation. As RVNL takes the lead in the viaduct construction, the project propels forward, contributing to Pune's vision of a well-connected and accessible urban landscape.
