New Delhi, India (Metro Rail Today): In a significant administrative shift, the Government of India has appointed Srinivas Katikithala, a 1998-batch Indian Administrative Services (IAS) officer, as the new Secretary of the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs. This appointment marks a pivotal moment in Katikithala’s distinguished career in public service, highlighting his extensive experience and commitment to effective governance.

A Proven Track Record in Public Service

Before taking on this new role, Katikithala served as Secretary at the Ministry of Minority Affairs, where he focused on initiatives aimed at improving the socio-economic conditions of minorities in India. His recent position as Director of the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration further underscores his deep involvement in administrative training and reform.

Katikithala's journey in the IAS began in 1998, and over the years, he has held several key positions that have contributed to his expertise in governance and policy formulation. Notably, he served as Establishment Officer in the Government of India from June 2020 to August 2021, where he played a crucial role in the management of personnel and administrative matters.

Key Roles and Contributions

Srinivas Katikithala's experience is marked by a series of impactful roles. As Additional Secretary from August 2018 to May 2020, he contributed to several significant government initiatives, demonstrating his capacity for leadership and strategic planning. His tenure as Joint Secretary in the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) from May 2017 to August 2018 focused on formulating policies that drive efficiency within the Indian bureaucracy.

At the state level, he served as Principal Secretary in the Revenue Department of Gujarat from June 2015 to May 2017. During this period, Katikithala was instrumental in enacting crucial revenue reform legislation and streamlining administrative processes related to land management.

His role as Member Secretary of the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Rashtriya Ekta Trust from November 2009 to May 2017 involved overseeing the Statue of Unity project, a landmark initiative aimed at promoting national unity and tourism in India.

Previous Administrative Achievements

Srinivas Katikithala’s administrative prowess extends to his earlier positions, including Principal Secretary in the General Administration Department of Gujarat from July 2012 to June 2015. Here, he was responsible for managing personnel matters and protocol activities, showcasing his versatility in governance.

Additionally, Katikithala served as Secretary to the Government and Joint Managing Director of the Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam (SSNNL) from November 2009 to July 2012, where he oversaw vital irrigation and water supply projects, crucial for the state’s development.

From October 2004 to November 2009, he was the Managing Director at the Gujarat Urban Development Company, playing a key role in post-earthquake reconstruction efforts and the establishment of the Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT).

Katikithala’s early career included leading the Parivartan Cell, a Change and Innovation Management Unit within the Chief Minister's Office in Gujarat, where he spearheaded initiatives to boost the Information Technology sector and foster public-private partnerships.
