Chennai, India (Metro Rail Today): The Chennai Metro Rail Ltd (CMRL) has taken a significant step forward in the realization of its Phase-II project, having officially inked a contract agreement with TATA Projects. The agreement, valued at ₹1,817.54 crore, marks the culmination of a successful bidding process, with the Letter of Acceptance being awarded to TATA Projects, a major player in India's infrastructure development sector.
The project, financed by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), involves the construction of five crucial underground stations within the bustling city. These stations include Kolathur Junction Metro, Srinivasa Nagar Metro, Villivakkam Metro (Near Sub-urban), Villivakkam Bus Terminus Metro, and Villivakkam MTH Road Metro. The comprehensive scope of work encompasses a range of pivotal elements such as the establishment of entry and exit points, ventilation shafts, plumbing installations, earthmat, as well as the intricate details of architectural finishes and signages.
One of the most significant aspects of this project involves the creation of Twin Bored Tunnels, stretching from the Kolathur Junction Retrieval Shaft to the Villivakkam MTH Road launching shaft, along with the integration of ramps featuring a U-Section design. These endeavors are set to significantly augment the transportation infrastructure within Corridor-5 of CMRL Phase II, thus enhancing the overall connectivity and accessibility for the residents of Chennai.
Furthermore, with the successful awarding of the UG06 contract, CMRL has achieved a remarkable milestone, having completed 100 percent of the civil and track contract awards for its Phase-II project. This remarkable progress underlines CMRL's steadfast commitment to the development and modernization of Chennai's public transportation system, ensuring the seamless integration of efficient and sustainable metro services within the city.
