TBM Mahavir achieves First Tunnel Breakthrough for Patna Metro's Corridor 2

Patna, India (Metro Rail Today): Patna witnessed a historic moment today, as the Patna Metro Rail Project achieved a significant milestone with the first tunnel breakthrough of Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM-01, DZ1090). The 450-tonne EPB TBM (nicknamed Mahavir) successfully reached the Patna University metro station, marking a pivotal moment in the city's infrastructure development. The breakthrough was commemorated by Advisor (Special Works) Daljeet Singh.

The journey of TBM-01 commenced in May 2023 at the Moin Ul Haq stadium, where it began the construction of a 1.5 km long tunnel connecting MUH and Patna University. Over the months, TBM-01 worked tirelessly, operating round the clock to construct a fully lined tunnel spanning 1.5 km, completing the first leg of its journey towards Gandhi Maidan. This TBM was deployed by Larsen & Toubro Ltd.

This achievement holds particular significance considering the challenges posed by the densely populated and old building structures along this stretch. Despite these obstacles, the dedicated efforts of the project team ensured the successful completion of the tunneling process, setting a precedent for future endeavors.

The construction progress of the underground metro station and tunnel in Corridor 2 of the Patna Metro Rail Project is advancing rapidly, underscoring the commitment to timely execution and delivery of the project. Corridor 2, spanning 14.05 km, will connect Patna Railway Junction to the New Inter State Bus Terminal, featuring 12 stations strategically located to enhance connectivity across the city.

Of the total stretch, 6 kilometers with 5 stations will be elevated, while the remaining 8 kilometers with 7 stations will be underground, catering to the diverse commuting needs of the populace. The inclusion of interchange stations further facilitates seamless transitions between different corridors, optimizing the metro network's efficiency.

As the Patna Metro Rail Project continues to progress, the successful breakthrough of TBM-01 underscores the collective efforts towards transforming the city's transportation landscape. With each milestone achieved, the vision of a modern, efficient, and sustainable metro system for Patna edges closer to realization, promising enhanced mobility and connectivity for residents and visitors alike.

The first tunnel breakthrough signifies a momentous step forward for the Patna Metro Rail Project, heralding the dawn of a new era in urban transportation infrastructure. With unwavering determination and dedication, the project paves the way for a brighter and more accessible future for the people of Patna.
