Kanpur, India (Metro Rail Today): In a significant milestone for the Kanpur Metro Rail Project, the 'Tatya' Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) was launched today for the 'down-line' tunnel construction from McRobertganj towards Chuniganj. This marks a crucial phase in the Chunniganj-Nayaganj underground section of Corridor-1, connecting IIT-Kanpur to Naubasta.
The 'Tatya' TBM, joining the 'Nana' TBM that is already working on the 'up-line', is set to construct a 414-meter tunnel towards Chuniganj station. This stretch constitutes the final stage of tunnel construction in the approximately 4 km-long Chunniganj-Nayaganj underground section. With this development, the Kanpur Metro's tunnel construction phase is progressing towards completion.
Within the Chunniganj-Nayaganj underground section, approximately 3 km of the underground tunnel has already been constructed, covering all the station boxes from Chunniganj to Nayaganj station. The 'Nana' and 'Tatya' TBMs, moving from the cut and cover shaft at McRobertganj towards Chunniganj, are now on their last mission of tunnel construction in Kanpur.
The tunnel being constructed in McRobertganj will serve as the entry point for metro trains heading towards Naubasta from the elevated section of the Priority Corridor (IIT - Motijheel). Once the train enters this tunnel, the next seven stations of the metro (Chunniganj-Transport Nagar) will be underground.
Simultaneously, the construction of the tunnel by Kanpur Metro's 3rd and 4th TBMs, named 'Azad' and 'Vidyarthi,' is progressing rapidly on a stretch of about 1250 meters from Kanpur Central towards Nayaganj under the Kanpur Central-Transport Nagar underground section. This marks a unique moment as all four TBMs of Kanpur Metro are currently engaged in tunnel construction work.
Congratulating the entire team of Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (UPMRC), Managing Director Sushil Kumar expressed confidence in the efficient implementation of the project. He highlighted the rapid progress of Metro construction in Kanpur, expressing optimism about completing the work on the Balance Section within the stipulated time frame.
Under Corridor-1 of the Kanpur Metro Rail Project, construction work is advancing swiftly on the Baradevi-Naubasta Elevated Section, in addition to the Chunniganj-Nayaganj and Kanpur Central-Transport Nagar underground sections.
This achievement signifies a major stride towards enhancing Kanpur's urban transportation infrastructure.
