New Delhi, India (Metro Rail Today): Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has invited bids for rolling stock Contract RS20 under Delhi Metro Phase 4. The tender pertains to the 26.463 km Rithala–Narela–Nathupur corridor, which is the extension of Line 1 (Red Line) of the Delhi Metro network.
The tender notice was issued on 12 February 2026 and will close on 4 May 2026. The tender carries an Earnest Money Deposit (EMD) of ₹1 crore and has been issued under Tender No. RS20 with Tender ID 2026_DMRC_898225_1.
The scope of work includes the design, manufacture, supply, testing, and commissioning of 68 broad gauge metro cars for the Red Line extension. In addition to rolling stock supply, the contract also covers training of DMRC personnel and comprehensive maintenance of the 68 cars for a period of 15 years. The package further includes supply and upkeep of depot machinery and plants, special tools, jigs and fixtures, testing and diagnostic equipment, test benches, and material handling equipment required for long-term operations.
The Rithala–Narela–Nathupur (Kundli) corridor spans 26.463 km and will include 21 stations. Once completed, it will significantly enhance connectivity to the northern outskirts of Delhi and adjoining areas of Haryana, strengthening last-mile access and easing congestion on parallel road corridors.
Delhi Metro Phase 4 comprises six corridors, including one entirely new line and five extensions of existing lines. The new Golden Line corridor from Aerocity to Tughlakabad spans 23.622 km with 15 stations. The Pink Line extension from Mukundpur to Maujpur covers 12.558 km with 10 stations. The Magenta Line extension from Janakpuri West to R.K. Ashram measures 28.92 km with 22 stations. The Gold Line extension from Lajpat Nagar to Saket G-Block spans 8.385 km with eight stations. The Green Line extension from Inderlok to Indraprastha runs 12.58 km with 10 stations. The Red Line extension from Rithala to Nathupur, for which this rolling stock tender has been issued, is one of the longest stretches under Phase 4.
The RS20 contract is a key milestone in advancing system readiness for the Red Line extension, ensuring availability of modern rolling stock aligned with DMRC’s operational standards and long-term maintenance framework.
Commenting on the development, Mrs. Mamta Shah, MD & CEO, Urban Infra Group, said, “Rolling stock procurement under Phase 4 signals the transition from civil construction to operational planning. The Red Line extension will play a critical role in connecting emerging residential and industrial clusters in North Delhi and beyond. Long-term maintenance provisions within the contract also reflect DMRC’s emphasis on lifecycle efficiency and service reliability.”
With the RS20 tender now floated, the Rithala–Narela–Nathupur corridor moves a step closer to expanding Delhi Metro’s reach toward the National Capital Region’s growth zones.
