Thane, India (Metro Rail Today): The Thane Integral Ring Metro Project has inched closer to on-ground execution, with Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MahaMetro) receiving a single bid for a crucial civil works package. BBG Infrastructure Private Limited has emerged as the sole bidder for the contract involving the construction of six elevated metro stations along the proposed corridor.
The tender, identified as T1-023/C-02/2025, carries an estimated project cost of ₹223.7 crore and is slated for completion within 30 months. The scope includes the construction of six key elevated stations—Dr. Kashinath Ghanekar Natyagruha, Manpada, Dongripada, Vijay Nagari, Waghbil, and Waterfront—forming an integral part of the upcoming circular metro network.
The Thane Integral Ring Metro Rail Project is a 29-kilometre circular corridor planned along the western side of Thane city. Approved in August 2024, the project will feature 22 stations and is expected to significantly decongest road traffic while enhancing last-mile connectivity across densely populated urban pockets.
The project is being jointly executed by MahaMetro and the Thane Municipal Corporation, with a targeted completion timeline of 2029. Once operational, the ring metro will seamlessly integrate with Metro Line 4 and Metro Line 5, strengthening the overall multimodal transport ecosystem in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
Commenting on the development, Mrs. Mamta Shah, MD & CEO, Urban Infra Group, said, “The Thane Integral Ring Metro is a forward-looking urban mobility initiative that reflects the growing focus on decentralised and circular transit systems in rapidly expanding cities. Such projects are critical in reducing congestion, improving connectivity and enhancing the quality of urban life. The steady progress in tendering and contractor participation indicates strong momentum toward timely implementation.”
The six elevated stations included in this package are strategically located to serve key residential and commercial hubs, ensuring improved accessibility and passenger convenience. Their integration with existing and upcoming metro lines will play a vital role in distributing commuter traffic more efficiently across the region.
Although the tender has attracted a single bidder, the project continues to gain traction as authorities push forward with procurement and execution processes. The development also reflects the broader trend of expanding metro networks in Tier-1 cities to address rising urban mobility demands.
As Thane prepares for a major transformation in its public transport landscape, the progress on this tender marks another step toward realizing a modern, efficient, and interconnected metro network for the city.
