Kolkata, India (Rail & Metro Today): Titagarh Rail Systems Ltd has received an additional order worth ₹1,716.90 crore, plus applicable Goods and Services Tax (GST), from the Ministry of Railways for manufacturing and supplying 4,955 BOXNHL wagons. The order strengthens the company’s railway freight rolling stock portfolio and increases the total quantity under the existing contract to 9,994 wagons.
In a regulatory filing dated October 28, 2026, the Kolkata-based company said the additional order was awarded under the option clause of the original contract. The Ministry of Railways issued an amendment letter on the same day under Clause 12, allowing the additional quantity to be placed at the same prices, terms and conditions as the original agreement.
Following the amendment, the total contract value stands at ₹10,404.10 crore, inclusive of GST. The additional order is to be executed within 222 days from the date of the amendment letter, with delivery scheduled for completion by June 7, 2027.
BOXNHL wagons are designed for carrying bulk commodities and form part of Indian Railways’ freight wagon fleet. Such wagons support the movement of goods across the country, helping meet the logistics requirements of industries and strengthening rail-based freight transportation.
The expanded order reflects the use of an existing contractual option to increase wagon supplies without changing the original pricing and contractual conditions. Increasing freight wagon availability is an important element of Indian Railways’ efforts to strengthen freight capacity and improve the efficiency of goods transportation.
The additional quantity also provides Titagarh Rail Systems with a defined manufacturing and delivery schedule over the coming months. Meeting the deadline will require production planning, supply-chain coordination and timely delivery in accordance with the Ministry of Railways’ requirements.
Titagarh Rail Systems stated that the order was awarded by a domestic entity. The company also disclosed that its promoters, promoter group and group companies have no interest in the awarding entity, and that the contract does not fall under related-party transactions.
The latest order amendment increases the total number of wagons covered by the contract from the original quantity to 9,994, while raising the amended contract value to ₹10,404.10 crore, inclusive of GST. The order adds to the company’s ongoing role in supplying rolling stock for India’s railway freight network.
