Mumbai, India (Metro Rail Today): In a significant boost to Mumbai’s expanding metro infrastructure, Univastu India has secured a ₹391.76 crore Electrical & Mechanical (E&M) works contract for Mumbai Metro Line 4 and its extension Line 4A, collectively known as the Green Line. The corridor spans 32.32 km, connecting Wadala to Kasarvadavali, with a 2.7 km extension from Kasarvadavali to Gaimukh, strengthening east–west and north–south connectivity across Mumbai and Thane.
The contract pertains to Package CA-298, originally awarded by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) to Larsen & Toubro (L&T). L&T has now subcontracted the E&M scope of works to Univastu India, entrusting it with a critical role in delivering core systems for one of Mumbai’s most important elevated metro corridors.
The comprehensive contract covers the design, manufacture, supply, installation, integration, testing and commissioning of Electrical & Mechanical systems for Mumbai Metro Line 4 and Line 4A. It also includes:
2 years of Defect Liability Maintenance Period (DLMP)
5 years of Comprehensive Maintenance Period (CMP) thereafter
Training of operational staff
Supply of spares, special tools, testing and diagnostic equipment
Jigs, fixtures, and maintenance support systems
The scope extends across 32 stations on the main line and depot facilities, ensuring long-term reliability, safety, and operational efficiency of the corridor’s E&M infrastructure.
Mumbai Metro Line 4 and Line 4A together form a crucial elevated corridor linking central Mumbai with the northern suburbs and Thane, significantly easing congestion on parallel road networks and suburban rail lines. Once operational, the Green Line is expected to play a transformative role in daily commuting patterns across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
Commenting on the development, Mrs. Mata Shah, MD & CEO, Urban Infra Group, said: “The award of this high-value E&M contract to Univastu India reflects the growing confidence of project authorities and EPC majors in Indian system integrators. Mumbai Metro Line 4 and 4A are vital urban corridors, and the successful delivery of advanced electrical and mechanical systems will be key to ensuring safe, reliable, and passenger-centric metro operations. Such projects also underscore how domestic players are increasingly contributing to complex metro infrastructure aligned with India’s long-term urban mobility vision.”
With this contract, Univastu India strengthens its footprint in large-scale metro E&M execution, while the Mumbai Metro Green Line inches closer to completion. The subcontracting of Package CA-298 also highlights the collaborative ecosystem between global EPC leaders and capable Indian infrastructure firms in delivering complex urban transit projects.
As Mumbai accelerates the rollout of multiple metro corridors, contracts like these are pivotal in ensuring that the city’s future metro network is not only extensive but also technologically robust and operationally sustainable.
