Universal MEP Projects awarded E&M Contract for Line 5 of Chennai Metro Phase 2

Chennai, India (Metro Rail Today): Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has taken a significant stride in the implementation of Phase II of the Chennai Metro Rail Project with the recent contract award for the Electrical and Mechanical (E&M) systems of Corridor 5, specifically E&M-04. The esteemed project involves the supply, installation, testing, commissioning, and training of Electrical, Fire Protection, and VAC (Ventilation, Air Conditioning) works for 22 elevated stations spanning from Koyambedu Market Metro to Elcot Park Metro, including the viaduct between the stations (Ch.15576 to Ch.45300).

This crucial contract aims to provide state-of-the-art Electrical and Mechanical infrastructure for the 22 elevated stations along Corridor 5 of Chennai Metro Rail Project Phase – II. The scope encompasses a comprehensive range of works to ensure the efficiency, safety, and reliability of the metro network, serving the growing transportation needs of the city.

Following a competitive tender process, the esteemed contract has been awarded to M/s Universal MEP Projects & Engineering Services Limited. The contract, valued at Rs. 137.86 Crores, was officially signed at MetroS, Nandanam, Chennai. The signatories included Rajesh Chaturvedi, Director (Systems and Operations), CMRL, and Jayant Deshpande, Business Development Head, and Biplab Chattopadhyay, MEP – South Zone Head, representing Universal MEP Projects & Engineering Services Limited.

The Electrical and Mechanical systems are the backbone of any metro network, ensuring the smooth operation, safety, and comfort of passengers. With this contract, CMRL is not only advancing its metro connectivity but also prioritizing the implementation of cutting-edge safety measures and technologies.
