Hanoi, Vietnam (Metro Rail Today): VinSpeed High-Speed Railway Investment and Development Joint Stock Company, a member of Vietnam’s leading conglomerate Vingroup, has entered into a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and Framework Agreement with Siemens Mobility, marking a major step towards the development of Vietnam’s first high-speed rail corridors.
Under the agreement, Siemens Mobility will act as the technology partner, responsible for the design, supply, and system integration of advanced Velaro Novo high-speed trains, along with key railway subsystems including ETCS Level 2 signalling with Automatic Train Operation (ATO), electrification, and telecommunications systems. The partnership also explores long-term cooperation in advanced maintenance services to ensure high system availability and lifecycle efficiency.
The agreement establishes a framework for future implementation contracts and reflects both companies’ commitment to delivering international-standard, safe, and sustainable rail infrastructure in Vietnam. The collaboration combines VinSpeed’s domestic market expertise and project execution capability with Siemens Mobility’s global experience in turnkey high-speed rail solutions.
Michael Peter, Chief Executive Officer of Siemens Mobility, said, “We are proud that the global frontrunner VinSpeed has selected Siemens Mobility to deliver Vietnam’s first high-speed rail lines. Velaro Novo, our most advanced high-speed train platform, offers up to 30% lower energy consumption, higher passenger capacity, and proven reliability—well suited to Vietnam’s challenging terrain.”
Mr. Pham Thieu Hoa, CEO of VinSpeed, added, “This strategic cooperation marks an important milestone in VinSpeed’s roadmap for modern transport infrastructure development. Together with Siemens Mobility, we aim to deliver high-speed rail projects that contribute to socio-economic growth and significantly improve the quality of life in Vietnam.”
VinSpeed, in partnership with Siemens Mobility, is currently developing multiple high-speed rail routes across Vietnam. Key projects include:
Hà Nội – Quảng Ninh (Hạ Long) High-Speed Line
Length: 121 km
Stations: 4
Bến Thành – Cần Giờ High-Speed Line
Length: 54 km
Stations: 2
All corridors will be equipped with ETCS Level 2 signalling, advanced electrification, and digital communications systems, ensuring high levels of operational efficiency, safety, and sustainability.
Velaro Novo, Siemens Mobility’s latest high-speed train platform, is designed for operating speeds of up to 350 km/h and offers at least 10% higher passenger capacity due to a wider carbody and optimized design. The platform consumes around 30% less energy compared to earlier generations, reducing emissions and operating costs.
Engineered for demanding conditions, Velaro Novo is capable of handling steep gradients and diverse terrains, making it particularly suitable for Vietnam’s geographical landscape. Integrated ETCS Level 2 and ATO systems further enhance safety, energy optimisation, and operational reliability.
Siemens has been active in Vietnam since 1993, supporting the country’s modernization across sectors such as energy, healthcare, and transportation. With offices in Hanoi, Da Nang, and Ho Chi Minh City, Siemens provides a wide portfolio of digital solutions, rolling stock, rail infrastructure, and turnkey rail services, reinforcing Vietnam’s integration into global mobility networks.
Commenting on the partnership, Mrs. Mamta Shah, MD & CEO, Urban Infra Group, said, “Vietnam’s move towards high-speed rail reflects a broader global shift toward sustainable, high-capacity mobility solutions. Strategic partnerships like VinSpeed–Siemens Mobility demonstrate how combining global technology leadership with strong local execution can accelerate infrastructure delivery and set new benchmarks for regional rail development.”
The VinSpeed–Siemens Mobility strategic partnership signals a transformative phase for Vietnam’s rail sector. With cutting-edge high-speed technology, digital systems, and a focus on sustainability, the collaboration is expected to play a pivotal role in reshaping intercity travel, boosting regional connectivity, and supporting long-term economic growth across Vietnam.
