Chennai, India (Metro Rail Today): Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) is making significant strides in advancing the feasibility reports for mass rapid transit systems in Trichy and Salem, both key urban centers in Tamil Nadu. Officials at Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) have indicated that the detailed feasibility reports (DFR) are nearing completion and are expected to be finalized within the next few days.
The focus on the DFR completion comes with a purpose, as CMRL plans to visit Salem to ensure that the proposed alignment of the transit system does not impede the existing infrastructure, including flyovers. This scrutiny underlines the commitment to a seamless integration of the new transit system with the urban landscape.
These comprehensive feasibility reports will encompass assessments of the most suitable mass rapid transit system for each city. Recommendations will cover various aspects, including possible alignments, anticipated traffic demand, projected timeline for system development, and an estimated cost.
Upon the submission of the DFR, a thorough consultation with stakeholders and the State government will follow. This will pave the way for the creation of detailed project reports (DPR) for both Trichy and Salem. These reports will be instrumental in initiating the next stages of project development, including securing funding and commencing construction.
The ambitious projects align with Chennai Metro Rail's ongoing endeavors, with a focus on the phase II project spanning 116 km. Additionally, detailed project reports for Coimbatore and Madurai were recently submitted, a prerequisite for seeking funds and subsequent construction.
To get real-time information on further development in the new metro projects, please stay in touch with Metro Rail Today.
As Trichy and Salem continue to evolve as major urban centers, these mass rapid transit systems hold the potential to redefine public transportation and contribute to the overall growth and development of these cities.
