Pune, India (Metro Rail Today): In a crucial milestone for the Pune Metro Aqua Line’s Phase 1 project, Janak Kumar Garg, the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS), wrapped up a comprehensive 2-day final inspection of the 5.94 km long Ruby Hall Clinic – Ramwadi section. This elevated section, officially designated as Reach 3, represents the concluding leg of the 31.24 km Pune Metro Phase 1 project, with a mere 14.665 km of the Aqua Line remaining to be inaugurated for commercial operations. Reach 3 boasts four newly constructed elevated stations at Bund Garden, Yerawada, Kalyani Nagar, and Ramwadi.
The Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation (Maha-Metro) initiated trial runs, including train testing, on Reach 3’s viaduct back in October 2023. The CMRS team commenced their final statutory safety inspection on the preceding Friday, a noteworthy instance of an inspection extending across a weekend.
The inspection's purview encompassed a thorough assessment of passenger amenities and control room facilities across all four stations. A motor-trolley inspection of the viaduct, featuring a 310-meter-long bridge over the Mula-Mutha River near Bund Garden, was conducted. Additionally, critical systems such as track inspection by Paras Railtech, signaling, and electrification managed by Alstom were scrutinized.
J Kumar Infraprojects, through a Rs. 388.58 crore contract awarded in August 2018, undertook the construction of Reach 3’s viaduct. The stations along the route were skillfully crafted by Afcons – SPCPL JV, securing a contract in July 2018.
Despite the ongoing status of station completion, the opening of this section is imminent, slated to occur before the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The actual commencement of commercial operations hinges on the availability of schedules for both local and national politicians.
In a unique observation, this inspection's weekend-spanning nature highlights the meticulous dedication to ensuring the safety and readiness of Pune Metro’s Aqua Line for public use.
