Indore, India (Metro Rail Today): In a significant development for the city’s mass transit infrastructure, Hindustan Construction Company Ltd. (HCC) and Tata Projects Ltd. (TPL), operating as HCC–TPL JV, have officially commenced secant piling work for the underground section of Indore Metro’s Yellow Line.
The 8.626 km underground corridor will connect Indore Railway Station with Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar Airport, featuring twin tunnels and seven underground stations at Indore Railway Station, Rajwada, Chhota Ganpati, Bada Ganpati, Ramchandra Nagar, BSF/Kalani Nagar and Indore Airport.
The move follows the award of a ₹2,190.91 crore contract by the Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (MPMRCL) to the joint venture in March 2025. The contract, designated as Package IN-05R, is the only underground section of the 33.53 km-long Indore Metro Phase 1.
HCC–TPL JV is responsible for the design and construction of civil works including tunnels and stations. The financial share of the joint venture is split with HCC holding 55% (~₹1,205 crore) and TPL 45% (~₹986 crore).
The scope of work includes the deployment of at least four tunnel boring machines (TBMs) to construct 16 tunnel segments. While Terratec is expected to supply the machines, it remains unclear whether these will be new or refurbished units.
Based on current project status, tunneling is expected to begin in Q3 2026.
Package IN-05R will interface with:
Package IN-04 (being executed by RVNL–URCC JV) on the east, and
Package IN-03 (under construction by URCC via subcontract from RVNL) on the west.
With secant piling now underway at Indore Airport Station, construction is officially in progress on all six civil packages of the Indore Metro Yellow Line — marking a key milestone for MPMRCL’s transit ambitions.
