Construction work begins on ₹5,452 Crore Gurugram Metro Extension Project

Gurugram, India (Metro Rail Today): In a major boost to Haryana’s urban mobility and infrastructure landscape, Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and Haryana Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini on Thursday laid the foundation stone for the long-awaited Gurugram Metro extension project. The ambitious ₹5,452.72 crore corridor aims to significantly ease traffic, enhance regional connectivity, and unlock real estate potential across the rapidly growing urban sprawl.

The new 28.5 km elevated metro corridor, featuring 27 strategically located stations, will connect the heart of Old Gurugram to Cyber City in New Gurugram, effectively bridging the long-standing mobility divide between the city’s traditional and modern zones. The project will be implemented by the Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL) — a special purpose vehicle jointly owned by the Government of Haryana and the Central Government. The Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation Limited (HMRTC) will serve as the nodal implementation agency.

Once complete, the corridor will loop from Millennium City Centre Metro Station (formerly HUDA City Centre) to Cyber City at Moulsari Avenue, with a 1.85-km spur connecting the metro line to the Dwarka Expressway — integrating Gurugram more seamlessly into the wider Delhi-NCR metro network.

Providing an industry viewpoint, Mrs. Mamta Shah, MD & CEO of Urban Infra Group, said, “The Gurugram Metro extension is a landmark step toward urban integration and mobility equity. It’s not just about laying down tracks, but about redefining how Gurugram lives, moves, and grows. By connecting the legacy sectors with the new economic zones, this project will accelerate both transit-oriented development and holistic urban regeneration.”

Currently, Gurugram has limited metro connectivity through a 7-km stretch of the Delhi Metro Yellow Line and a 12.85-km Rapid Metro system. The addition of this 28.5-km corridor is expected to significantly reduce travel times, ease vehicular congestion, and improve access to major business districts, residential clusters, and civic amenities.

Real estate developers and market experts are optimistic about the metro’s impact, particularly on emerging corridors like Dwarka Expressway, where residential and commercial development is relatively new. “Improved connectivity will enhance daily life and support property value growth across Gurugram’s real estate market,” said Harinder Dhillon, National Sales Head at BPTP.

While Old Gurugram may see limited impact on property values due to existing saturation, experts predict redevelopment opportunities akin to Delhi's metro-linked zones, breathing new life into older sectors.

Planned stations on the new line include major nodes such as Hero Honda Chowk, Subhash Chowk, Cyber Park, Ashok Vihar, Palam Vihar, Basai Village, and Udyog Vihar — covering a wide urban spread and improving last-mile connectivity.

With construction now set in motion, the Gurugram Metro extension is poised to become a transformational project, reshaping the urban transit ecosystem and propelling Gurugram into its next phase of sustainable and inclusive growth.
