DMRC and BEML sign agreement for US$2bn Bahrain Metro Rail Project Phase 1

New Delhi, India (Metro Rail Today): The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Limited (DMRC) has qualified for the pre-qualification tender process for an international consultancy project to construct the Phase-1 Project of Bahrain Metro. The Delhi Metro is bidding for this project which involves building of around a 30 kilometers network with 20 stations.

In view of this, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with BEML Limited on 20th February 2023 in New Delhi.
 
As a part of this MoU, the BEML will be responsible for manufacturing and supplying of Rolling Stock and the Delhi Metro will provide expertise in the fields of project development, budgeting and facilitating development of contractual obligations for the Bahrain Metro Project.
 
The MoU was signed by Saleem Ahmed, Executive Director (Last Mile Connectivity), DMRC and D S Ganesh, General Manager (Marketing), BEML Ltd in the presence of Vikas Kumar, Managing Director, DMRC and Amit Banerjee, Chairman & Managing Director (CMD), BEML.
 
The Bahrain Metro Rail Project will be developed in two phases. A total of 4 lines are proposed, with 2 lines will be constructed in Phase-1. Two interchanges are planned at the Bab al Bahrain and Al-Farooq Junction. The first phase, including about 30 km with 20 stations and 2 interchanges, of light rail transit system network, is expected to cost BD453 million.
 
The Line 1 (Red Line) will start from Bahrain International Airport and end at Seef Mall, via the Airport Avenue and the King Faisal Highway. The line will have 9 stations and will be 13 km long. It will also connect The Avenues, Bab al Bahrain, and Bahrain City Centre.
 
The Line 2 (Blue Line) will run from Juffair to Isa Town, running at a length of 15.6 km with 11 stations. The line will connect the Diplomatic Area, Bab al Bahrain, Salmaniya, Zinj, Tubli, Salmabad, and end at the Educational Area in Isa Town.
 
The Delhi Metro is actively exploring opportunities to bag international projects for construction and operations of metros across the world. Earlier, the Delhi Metro has qualified in the pre-bid process for construction of Tel Aviv Metro Project in Israel.
 
In addition, the DMRC is also in the process of bidding for other international metro projects such as Alexandria in Egypt, Ho Chi Minh in Vietnam and Mauritius as well. The DMRC is currently engaged in the construction of Dhaka Metro in Bangladesh as a consultant.
