New Delhi, India (Metro Rail Today): In a groundbreaking move for urban mobility in India, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has become the first large-scale metro system in the country to integrate with the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC). This strategic integration enables commuters to book Delhi Metro tickets through more than 10 popular apps, including Google Maps, Redbus, Rapido, and EaseMyTrip, without downloading a dedicated metro app.
The DMRC’s soft launch on the ONDC platform began in November 2024, and it is now fully accessible via a growing number of consumer-facing apps such as Chartr, EaseMyTrip, Google Maps, Highway Delite, Miles & Kilometres (via Telegram), NammaYatri, OneTicket, Rapido, Redbus, Tummoc and Yatri Railways.
With an average daily ridership of 6.5 million passengers, Delhi Metro's presence on ONDC represents a major step toward a digitally unified public transportation experience.
This integration eliminates the need for commuters to switch between different apps or platforms for metro travel. Now, a user can book Delhi Metro tickets directly within apps they already use—such as while planning a bus trip or booking a bike taxi.
For example:
A traveler from Jaipur to Delhi using Redbus can also purchase a Delhi Metro ticket for onward travel from ISBT Kashmere Gate—all within the same app.
A local commuter in Delhi can plan an end-to-end trip using Rapido—starting with a bike ride to the metro, traveling via DMRC, and ending with another ride to their destination.
This smooth user experience is made possible by a single-point integration enabled by SequelString AI (SAI), the Technology Service Provider behind DMRC’s ONDC onboarding. Through this setup, metro ticketing is now embedded into mobility apps, journey planners, and even a Telegram bot, making DMRC’s services widely accessible.
Dr. Vikas Kumar, Managing Director of DMRC, stated:
“This partnership with ONDC simplifies metro travel by bringing ticketing into the digital platforms people already use. It reduces friction and enhances accessibility.”
Vibhor Jain, Acting CEO and COO of ONDC, added:
“The integration of DMRC into the ONDC Network demonstrates how open digital ecosystems can expand seamless access to public services. A single connection now powers ticketing across multiple everyday apps.”
Mrs. Mamta Shah, MD & CEO of Urban Infra Group, appreciated the move, saying:
“This commuter-centric innovation is a game-changer for urban mobility. By aligning metro access with everyday digital habits, DMRC and ONDC are setting a new benchmark in how public transport should serve a tech-savvy India. It’s inclusive, intuitive, and truly visionary.”
More than a tech upgrade, this initiative reflects India’s broader move toward open digital public infrastructure. By embedding metro ticketing into widely used apps, DMRC is transforming transit from a siloed activity to an integrated part of daily digital life.
This collaboration is expected to boost commuter convenience, enhance digital adoption, and set a benchmark for urban transit systems across India.
