New Delhi, India (Metro Rail Today): India is on the brink of a transformative moment in its transportation landscape as Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the country's first Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS), known as RAPIDX, on October 20. This momentous occasion will mark the opening of a priority section between Duhai and Sahibabad, covering a total distance of 17 kilometers. The priority section comprises five key stations: Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Guldhar, Duhai, and Duhai Depot. PM Modi is expected to flag off the inaugural RAPIDX RRTS train in Ghaziabad, symbolizing a leap forward in India's rapid transit infrastructure.
A Game-Changer in Regional Connectivity
The Delhi-Meerut RRTS project, a pioneer in regional connectivity, is poised to revolutionize travel between these two bustling cities. Once the project reaches its full completion in 2025, commuters can traverse the 82-kilometer distance between Delhi and Meerut in just one hour, a remarkable reduction in travel time.
Executing Excellence: NCRTC's Role
The Delhi-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System is the brainchild of the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC), a crucial step towards easing congestion and enhancing connectivity in the National Capital Region. Notably, the RAPIDX services will mark a significant milestone by becoming the country's "first railway system" with a maximum operational speed of 160 kmph throughout its length. The average speed of RAPIDX trains on the RRTS will be an impressive 100 kmph, outpacing both traditional metro systems and Indian Railways' passenger trains.
This project has been marked by meticulous safety checks and regulatory approvals. In June of this year, the Commissioner for Metro Rail Safety (CMRS), a crucial authority under the Government of India, granted its clearance for RRTS operations, ensuring the safety and reliability of this groundbreaking system.
Innovations in Rolling Stock
The Ministry of Railways earlier this year sanctioned the rolling stock train sets for RRTS, designed for a remarkable speed of 180 kmph but operating at an equally impressive 160 kmph. These state-of-the-art RAPIDX train sets have been proudly manufactured in Gujarat, contributing to the 'Make in India' initiative. Comprising six coaches, including a Premium coach with separate entry and exit points on the platform, these trains have been designed with passenger comfort and convenience in mind.
What Lies Ahead
As India anticipates the opening of the priority section of RAPIDX, one key aspect yet to be disclosed is the fares for this revolutionary transit system. The announcement of fares is expected soon, and this unveiling is eagerly awaited, as it will shape the accessibility and affordability of the RAPIDX RRTS for millions of commuters.
India's journey towards modernizing its transportation infrastructure takes a giant leap with the inauguration of the Delhi-Meerut RRTS RAPIDX. This project signifies a remarkable blend of speed, convenience, and connectivity, setting a new standard for rapid transit in the country. The nation eagerly awaits the moment when the first RAPIDX train whizzes through the tracks, ushering in a new era in railway travel.
