Jaipur, India (Metro Rail Today): In a significant push to enhance urban connectivity, the Rajasthan State Government has announced a massive allocation of ₹12,000 crore for the development of Jaipur Metro Line 2, connecting Sitapura, Ambabari, and Vidhyadhar Nagar. This strategic expansion is part of the highly anticipated Jaipur Metro Phase-2 project.
The announcement was made by Finance Minister Diya Kumari, who confirmed that the project will be undertaken by the newly established Rajasthan Metro Railway Corporation (RMRC)—a joint venture between the Central Government and the State Government.
“RMRC will be responsible for constructing Metro Line 2, which connects the Sitapura Industrial Area to Ambabari and extends to Vidhyadhar Nagar. The estimated cost of the project is ₹12,000 crore,” said Finance Minister Diya Kumari during the budget announcement.
Following the announcement, RMRC has initiated the preparation of a revised Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the Sitapura–Ambabari section of Metro Line 2. Simultaneously, the Jaipur Metro Rail Corporation (JMRC) is working on a separate DPR for the Ambabari–Vidhyadhar Nagar stretch.
A senior Metro official stated, “The DPR is nearly complete. Now it’s up to the state government to approve and clear it for construction to begin.”
Spanning 36 kilometers, Jaipur Metro Phase-2 will run from Sitapura to Todi Mod (Sikar Road). Of the total stretch, approximately 32 kilometers will be elevated, while a strategic underground section will pass near the Jaipur Airport.
Key highlights of the proposed route include:
Elevated segment from Sitapura to Pinjrapole Gaushala.
Underground corridor near Sanganer Police Station on Tonk Road, facilitating direct access to Terminal 1 of Jaipur Airport.
Re-elevation from B-2 Bypass intersection to Ashok Marg, continuing through major city landmarks like Khasakothi Circle, Collectorate Circle, Chinkara Canteen, Panipech, and Ambabari.
On Sikar Road, the metro line extends from Bhawani Niketan Shikshan Sansthan to Harmada and Todi Mod, utilizing the existing BRTS corridor.
The project will feature 34 stations, with a new underground station proposed at the airport.
The draft DPR submitted by RITES is currently under internal review, according to Vaibhav Galriya, CMD of JMRC. He added that minor modifications might be made during the process, with the final DPR expected soon.
"The groundwork for Jaipur Metro Phase-2 gained momentum after the formation of the new BJP government in Rajasthan," Galriya noted.
With Line 2 set to connect major residential, commercial, and industrial hubs, the Jaipur Metro expansion is expected to transform urban transportation, reduce road congestion, and improve accessibility across the Pink City.
Stay tuned for further updates as the Jaipur Metro Phase-2 project progresses toward implementation.
