Kanpur Metro commences first L-Beam casting on Baradevi-Naubasta Stretch

Kanpur, India (Metro Rail Today):- The Kanpur Metro Rail Project marked a significant milestone as it commenced the first L-beam casting on the Baradevi-Naubasta elevated section under Corridor-1 (IIT-Naubasta). The casting process began at the under-construction Baradevi Metro Station during the night of July 24, 2023, and July 25, 2023. The L-beam being cast will have a total length of 81.25 meters, with approximately half of its 38.25 meters already completed during today's casting work.

The Baradevi Metro Station will require a total of three L-beams, each measuring 81.25 meters, which will serve as the longitudinal, L-shaped beams for the installation of Pi-girders during the station construction. A total of 22 piers will support each station, with 18 of them being positioned under the L-beam. All the metro stations in this section will have a length of approximately 77 meters.

Congratulating the team of metro engineers on this momentous occasion, Shri Sushil Kumar, Managing Director of Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (UPMRC), praised the commendable progress of civil construction in the Kanpur Metro. He expressed the aim of completing the construction work on the remaining section of the first corridor (Chunniganj-Naubasta) on schedule, after the successful commencement of Metro services from IIT to Motijheel.

The construction activities for the Baradevi-Naubasta elevated section began on August 8, 2022, and the first pier cap was laid on December 27, 2022. Subsequently, on January 21, 2023, the construction of the first U-girder for this section commenced.

The entire Baradevi-Naubasta section will feature a total of 276 piers, out of which 120 piers have been completed, and pier caps have been installed on 80 piers so far. In the elevated Metro construction, piers are built on-site, while pier caps and girders are precast and pre-tensioned at the casting yard and then transported to designated locations in the corridor using cranes.

Currently, rapid progress is being made on the Baradevi-Naubasta elevated section, the Kanpur Central-Transport Nagar underground section, and the Chunniganj-Nayaganj underground section under the first corridor of the Kanpur Metro Rail Project.
