New Delhi, India (Metro Rail Today): In a significant stride towards enhancing Delhi's metro infrastructure, KTK Group Co. Ltd. has secured a pivotal contract for the installation of Platform Screen Doors (PSDs) as part of the Phase 4 expansion project. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) awarded the esteemed KTK Group a contract valued at ₹236.25 crore (Package DS-08), solidifying its position in the augmentation of the city's rapid transit system.
Phase 4 of the Delhi Metro expansion encompasses an impressive 65.1 km route, which features the construction of a new line, the Silver Line spanning 23.62 km from Aerocity to Tughlakabad. Additionally, the expansion includes extensions to the existing Magenta Line (28.92 km from Janakpuri West to R.K.Ashram) and Pink Line (12.58 km from Mukundpur to Maujpur).
The essence of this contract revolves around the implementation of Platform Screen Doors at key stations along the three designated lines. A total of 27 elevated stations will be equipped with half-height PSDs, whereas 18 underground stations on the Silver and Magenta Lines will feature full-height PSDs.
The contract holds a final value of ₹74,24,79,000 along with an additional $1,96,32,000.
The process leading to this milestone was initiated by DMRC in September 2022, with an invitation for tenders and a stipulated deadline of 1095 days (equivalent to 3 years). Technical bids were unveiled in December 2022, revealing four contenders vying for the contract. During the evaluation phase, Fangda Innotech Co. Ltd. and ST Engineering Electronics Ltd. were found to be non-compliant with the specified tender conditions.
The final selection, carried out in July 2023, unveiled the financial bids of the two remaining firms, KTK Group Co. and Nanjing Kangnin Mechanical & Electrical Co. KTK Group emerged as the lowest bidder, securing the contract by a narrow margin over Nanjing Kangni.
The financial bid values are as follows:
| Firm | Bid value |
|---|---|
| KTK Group | Rs 236.25 crore |
| Nanjing Kangni | Rs 244.71 crore |
The scope of the contract encompasses the design, manufacture, and installation of both half-height platform gates and full-height platform screen doors. These installations will be executed across the corridors of Aerocity-Tughlakabad, Mukundpur-Maujpur, and Janakpuri West-R.K. Ashram Marg, all integral components of Phase-IV of the Delhi Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS).
Apart from the evident enhancement in safety measures through the prevention of accidents and incidents related to passenger movement, the introduction of these PSDs is projected to significantly lower maintenance expenses at the underground stations. This improvement in station conditions will also lead to a reduction in air-conditioning and ventilation costs.
