Kochi, India (Metro Rail Today): Leap Infraasys Pvt. Ltd (LIPL) secured a significant contract worth Rs 34.98 lakh for providing Proof Consultancy services for the power supply and 750 V DC Third Rail traction electrification system of Kochi Metro's Phase 2 project. This recent consultancy contract, labeled as Package KBE-PC-01, was awarded by Kochi Metro Rail Ltd (KMRL) and marks the fifth crucial pre-construction contract for the development of Phase 2.
The upcoming Phase 2 of the Kochi Metro will introduce an 11.2 km new elevated corridor, known as the Pink Line, which will incorporate 11 stations connecting JLN Stadium, Kakkanad, and Infopark (Smart City). The tender for this specific contract was issued by KMRL in August 2023 with an unspecified estimate and a deadline of 180 days. Following the opening of technical bids in mid-September, four bidders were revealed, with Rina Consulting being disqualified from the process.
The financial bid values, excluding the tax component, were as follows:
KMRL's defined scope for this engagement encompasses Proof Consultancy Services for the Power Supply Distribution System 750 V DC Third Rail Traction Electrification and SCADA System for the Kochi Metro Phase-II Project.
The Pink Line of Phase 2 will accommodate 11 stations, namely Jawaharlal Nehru (JLN) Stadium, Palarivattom Junction, Palarivattom Bypass, Chembumukku, Vazhakkala, Padamughal, Kakkanad Junction, Cochin SEZ (Special Economic Zone), Chittethukara, KINFRA and InfoPark / Smart City (Interchange with Kochi Water Metro).
This recent achievement marks LIPL's second successful venture in the mass transit sector within the last year, following their contract with Noida Metro for the Detailed Design Consultant (DDC) role for its 25 kV Overhead Equipment (OHE) system. In Kochi, LIPL will closely collaborate with SYSTRA MVA Consulting, which was earlier awarded the Detailed Design Consultant (DDC) contract for the Third Rail electrification system earlier this summer.
Currently, the bidding process is ongoing for Phase 2's civil construction contract (Package KBC3), with the deadline for bid submissions approaching on November 17. The technical bid opening is scheduled for November 20, indicating exciting developments to follow in the near future.
