L&T bags ₹981 Crore Electrification Contract for Haryana Orbital Rail Corridor

Gurugram, India (Metro Rail Today): Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has been awarded the electrification contract (SYS-1) for the Haryana Orbital Rail Corridor (HORC) project by the Haryana Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (HRIDC). The project, which spans 121.7 km, involves a new semi high-speed rail line connecting Prithla to New Harsana Kalan.

The contract includes the installation of 2 x 25kV, 50Hz, AC, High Rise Overhead Equipment (OHE), a Power Supply System, and a SCADA system. Additionally, a Rigid Overhead Conductor System (ROCS) will be installed within the tunnel section of the line (from km 24.850 to km 29.580), a section that was awarded to Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd. (RVNL) as part of Package C4 in August 2023.

HRIDC had invited tenders for the SYS-1 package in June 2023, with a project completion deadline of four years. Technical bids were opened in September 2023, revealing six bidders, including IRCON International, Kalpataru Projects International, KEC International, Konkan Railway Corporation, Larsen & Toubro, and Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd. L&T emerged as the lowest bidder with a bid value of Rs. 980.68 crore, confirmed through HRIDC’s Ralharee magazine.

A signing ceremony for the contract took place on March 6, 2024. However, this contract award has not been publicly announced by L&T or HRIDC, nor has it been reported on the Bombay Stock Exchange, where L&T usually discloses major contracts.

The scope of work includes the design, supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of the electrification systems for the new broad gauge double railway line from Prithla to New Harsana Kalan, covering approximately 145 route kilometers and 315 track kilometers. The project also includes connectivity to Indian Railways and Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) networks at New Prithla, Patli, Sultanpur, Asaudah, and New Harsana Kalan, with necessary modifications in station yards at these locations.

HRIDC is also expected to announce a signaling and telecom systems contract (SYS-2), with technical parameters still being finalized as of July 2024.
