L&T wins ₹850 crore civil contract of Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project

Bengaluru, India (Metro Rail Today): Karnataka's Rail Infrastructure Development Company Limited (K-RIDE) has opened the financial bids of the first civil contract package of 149.348 km Bengaluru Suburban/Commuter Rail Project. As per data shared by K-RIDE, Larsen & Toubro Ltd (L&T) emerged as the lowest bidder among the other two bidders.

In November 2021, K-RIDE had invited bids from the global construction firms against Tender Notice No. K-RIDE/BSRP/10/2021 for the construction of an 8.027 km elevated viaduct of the Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project (BSRP). Technical bids of this contract were opened in March 2022 and the names of three bidders were revealed.

The scope of work under this first civil contract package includes design and construction of elevated viaduct of length 8.027 km (ch: -0.675 km to -0.050 km & ch: 11.137 km to 18.350 km) including ramps and formation in embankments /cuttings including blanketing, major bridges, minor bridges, RUB, ROB, ROR, retaining wall, sacrificial retaining wall and drains, utility diversions of at-grade section of length 17.551 km (ch: -0.964 km to ch:-0.675 km, ch: -0.050 km to ch: 11.137 km & ch: 18.350 km to 24.425 km) and other related infrastructural works from Benniganahalli to Chikkabanavara, excluding station buildings, of the Corridor – 2 of Bengaluru Suburban Railway Project (BSRP).

The financial positions of each bidder is as under:-

  • Larsen & Toubro Ltd (L&T): Rs 849.97 crores (L1)
  • Afcons Infrastructure Ltd: Rs 1,219.71 crores (L2)
  • NCC Ltd: Rs 1,582.56 crores (L3)

Now all bids have been sent for final evaluation. Once completed, there is more chance to issue the work order soon as the Karnataka State Government has already allocated Rs 450 crores for this ambitious project in their budget for FY2022-23. The estimated cost of this project is Rs 15,767 crores. This project has got necessary approvals from the State as well as Central Government.

It is pertinent to mention here that the consortium of EGIS Rail, Louis Berger, and AECOM won the General Consultancy contract of the Bengaluru Suburban Railway Project (BSRP). K-RIDE is evaluating their bids to finalize the contract. The financial bids of the General Consultancy contract were opened in February 2022.
