Meerut, India (Metro Rail Today): In a significant milestone for urban mobility, the Meerut Metro project achieved a breakthrough as the first indigenously manufactured trainset was unveiled and handed over to the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) at Savli, Gujarat. Vinay Kumar Singh, Managing Director, NCRTC, marked the momentous occasion by unveiling the sleek Meerut Metro trainset with Nitin Ramesh Gokarn, Additional Chief Secretary, Uttar Pradesh, and other dignitaries in attendance.
The unveiling ceremony witnessed the first look of the Meerut Metro trainset, a symbol of India's prowess in infrastructure development. Hardeep Singh Puri, Hon’ble Minister for Housing & Urban Affairs, conveyed his best wishes through video, applauding the nation's commitment to expanding the Metro network. Vinay Kumar Singh emphasized the collaborative vision, stating, "Both Namo Bharat trains and Meerut metro will run on the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS infrastructure."
The Meerut Metro project, a collaboration with Alstom, aims to deliver 10 three-car trainsets bundled with rolling stock maintenance for 15 years. These trains, featuring a modern design, energy efficiency, and compatibility with advanced train control systems, mark a significant leap in India's metro rail capabilities.
The Meerut Metro trainsets boast a range of modern amenities for commuter comfort. Air-conditioned coaches, comfortable seating arrangements, luggage racks, CCTV cameras, USB charging ports, dynamic route maps, and infotainment systems reflect a commitment to passenger-centric design. Safety measures include emergency egress devices, fire extinguishers, alarms, and talk-back systems.
With the delivery of the first trainset, Meerut Metro enters the crucial phase of trial runs, paving the way for safe, fast, and modern transportation solutions for Meerut residents. The Metro corridor, spanning 23 km with 13 stations, including an 18 km elevated and 5 km underground section, is progressing rapidly. Construction milestones include the completion of underground tunnel construction, advanced track laying, and the operationalization of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor.
The Meerut Metro project aligns with India's vision of becoming a global leader in sustainable urban transportation. The collaborative efforts of NCRTC, Alstom, and other stakeholders contribute to the realization of a robust and interconnected metro network.
The unveiling of the Meerut Metro's first trainset is not merely a celebration of technological achievement but a testament to India's commitment to modernizing urban transit. As the project advances, Meerut Metro stands poised to redefine commuter experiences, setting new standards for efficiency, safety, and sustainability.
