Mumbai, India (Metro Rail Today): Mumbai, one of India's most bustling metropolitan areas, is witnessing a transformative phase in its transportation infrastructure with the development of an extensive metro network. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) is set to benefit from a robust metro system that aims to revolutionize urban mobility and connectivity. Currently, 14 metro lines are being developed, covering a total of 337.1 kilometers, which will serve as the backbone of the city's public transportation system.

Operational Metro Lines

Mumbai's metro network has already made significant strides with several lines fully operational, providing a glimpse into the future of urban transportation in the city:

  • Line 1: Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar Line
This inaugural line, stretching 11.4 kilometers, has been operational since June 8, 2014. It connects key areas from Versova to Ghatkopar, facilitating smoother commutes across this vital corridor.

This 9.2-kilometer line is under evaluation for alignment and technical feasibility.

  • Line 11: Wadala-CSMT
Covering 12.7 kilometers, this project has been handed over to MMRCL. Preparations are underway for DPRs for three further metro lines.

Upcoming Metro Lines

  • Line 8: Airport Road (CSMIA-NMIA)
Spanning 35 kilometers, this line’s DPR will be prepared by CIDCO, with the implementation expected to follow a public-private partnership model.

  • Line 13: Shivaji Chowk (Mira Road)-Virar
