Lucknow, October 30, 2026: Sterling and Wilson Pvt Ltd has emerged as the lowest bidder (L1) for a contract worth ₹313.88 crore for the installation and commissioning of traction power and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems for Lucknow Metro’s East-West Corridor under Phase 1B.
The financial bids were opened on October 30, 2026, by Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (UPMRC). The tender, bearing ID 2026_UPMRC_276160_1 and reference number LKE (02)-01, has an estimated cost of ₹291.42 crore. The contract carries a stipulated completion period of 27 months.
Sterling and Wilson’s quotation is approximately 7.7% higher than the estimated project cost. However, it is substantially lower than the bids submitted by the other two participating companies.
Three companies participated in the financial bidding process. Kalpataru Projects International Limited emerged as the second-lowest bidder (L2), quoting ₹401.11 crore, approximately 27.79% higher than Sterling and Wilson’s offer.
Siemens Limited ranked third with a bid of ₹410.09 crore, around 30.65% above the L1 quotation.
The significant difference between the lowest and other financial bids makes Sterling and Wilson the leading contender for the contract. However, the L1 position does not constitute a final award, and the contract remains subject to UPMRC’s evaluation and completion of the prescribed award formalities.
The traction power and SCADA package is an important component of metro railway infrastructure. Traction power systems supply electricity to metro trains, while SCADA technology enables the monitoring and control of electrical equipment and associated infrastructure from centralised control facilities.
The integration of these systems is essential for reliable train operations, efficient power distribution, equipment monitoring and operational safety. Their installation and commissioning must be coordinated with civil construction, station infrastructure, signalling and other railway systems before the corridor can become operational.
Lucknow Metro’s East-West Corridor forms part of the city's planned metro expansion under Phase 1B. The development is expected to strengthen urban connectivity and extend the reach of mass rapid transit services across additional parts of Lucknow.
Sterling and Wilson’s emergence as L1 marks a significant development in the procurement process for the East-West Corridor’s electrical infrastructure. With a 27-month completion period, timely contract finalisation and coordinated implementation will be important for meeting the project's development schedule.
The final award will be determined by UPMRC following the completion of the tender evaluation process. The contract, once awarded, will add another major metro systems assignment to the company's infrastructure portfolio.
