NCC Ltd bags ₹2,269 Crore Rolling Stock & Systems Contract for Mumbai Metro Line 6

Mumbai, India (Metro Rail Today): In a major boost to Mumbai’s urban transit infrastructure, NCC Limited has secured a high-value contract worth approximately ₹2,269 crore from the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) for the systems integration of Mumbai Metro Line 6. The project falls under Package CA-232 and covers the critical stretch between Swami Samarth Nagar and Vikhroli (Eastern Express Highway).

The awarded scope covers the design, supply, installation, integration, testing, and commissioning of several essential metro systems. These include rolling stock, Communication-Based Train Control (CBTC) signaling systems, telecommunications, platform screen doors (PSDs), and depot machinery and plant (M&P). These systems are crucial for ensuring safe, seamless, and technologically advanced operations of the upcoming elevated corridor.

The construction and systems commissioning are scheduled to be completed within 24 months, followed by a 2-year defect liability period, and a further 5-year comprehensive maintenance phase. This ensures that NCC Limited will not only deliver the infrastructure but will also remain involved in the upkeep and reliability of the systems through an extended project lifecycle.

Mumbai Metro Line 6 is an important east-west corridor, designed to reduce congestion and improve travel efficiency across densely populated residential and commercial zones. Once operational, it will offer critical interchange points with Metro Lines 2, 3, 4, and 7, improving overall network connectivity in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.

The award of this comprehensive systems package to NCC highlights the authority’s trust in the company’s execution capabilities and positions NCC among India’s key players in metro rail systems engineering. The installation of advanced CBTC signaling and telecom systems will increase train frequency, enhance safety, and support real-time communication between trains and operations control. The inclusion of PSDs and depot automation will further streamline daily operations and maintenance activities.

According to officials, the successful implementation of this package will play a transformative role in delivering a modern, smart, and commuter-friendly metro corridor that meets international standards for safety, efficiency, and passenger comfort.

This milestone contract strengthens the momentum of Mumbai Metro’s ongoing expansion and aligns with the broader vision of building a world-class rapid transit network to serve the city’s growing population and transit demands.
