New Delhi, India (Metro Rail Today): In a key development for the Delhi Metro Phase 4 Project, nine firms have submitted bids for the architectural finishing works of four new underground stations on the Golden Line (Line-10), which stretches 23.622 kilometers and connects Aerocity to Tughlakabad. This project is part of the broader Phase 4 initiative of the Delhi Metro, enhancing urban mobility in the region.
The Golden Line will feature a total of 15 stations, with the focus now on the architectural finishing of the following four underground stations under contract DC-09A:
Construction for these stations is currently being undertaken by Larsen & Toubro (L&T) as part of the 6.51 km underground Package DC-09, which connects Kishangarh Station to Saket Ramp.
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) officially invited bids for contract DC-09A in June 2024. The project has a two-year deadline for completion and is financed through an ₹8,390 crore loan from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). Technical bids were opened on September 25, 2024, revealing nine competitors for this contract.
The firms vying for the architectural finishing contract include:
The DMRC's brief for the contract entails comprehensive architectural finishing works for the four specified underground stations. This includes detailed interior designs, finishes, and essential installations that will enhance the functionality and aesthetics of each station.
The submitted bids are currently undergoing a technical evaluation, which is expected to take a couple of months. Once this evaluation is completed, the financial bids from the technically qualified bidders will be opened to identify the lowest bidder, who is likely to secure the contract.
Among the three underground packages of the Golden Line, Package DC-09 is progressing the fastest, with L&T having completed 4 out of 10 planned tunnel breakthroughs. The latest breakthrough was recorded just last Saturday, and images of the ongoing construction at the western shaft of Chhattarpur Mandir Station have highlighted the project's progress.
The completion of the architectural finishing work is critical for the timely opening of the Golden Line. Current projections suggest that commercial operations on this line may not commence before mid-2027, as construction continues to advance through various phases.
The competitive bidding for the architectural finishing contract on Delhi Metro’s Golden Line marks an important step in the ongoing expansion of Delhi’s metro network. With significant financial backing from JICA and a commitment to enhancing urban transportation, the Golden Line promises to deliver a state-of-the-art transit experience for commuters in the region. As the evaluation process unfolds, stakeholders are optimistic about the project's trajectory and its eventual impact on Delhi's transportation landscape.
