This metro line will enhance access to essential business areas such as Nariman Point, Lower Parel, and the Bandra Kurla Complex, as well as both domestic and international terminals of the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. By creating a seamless connectivity network, Mumbai Metro Line 3 represents not just a leap in urban transport but also a commitment to improving the quality of life for millions of Mumbaikars, linking key business districts, educational institutions, and hospitals.
In addition to the Metro project, the Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for the Thane Integral Ring Metro Rail Project, valued at over Rs 12,200 crore. This ambitious project, with a total length of 29 km comprising 20 elevated and 2 underground stations, aims to cater to the increasing transportation demands of Thane, a crucial industrial and commercial hub in Maharashtra. Alongside this, the extension of the Elevated Eastern Freeway is expected to further streamline traffic flow and reduce congestion in the area.
During his address, Prime Minister Modi expressed gratitude to the Government of Japan and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for their support in realizing the Aqua Line Metro from Aarey to BKC. He emphasized that this metro line symbolizes the strong friendship between India and Japan, highlighting the importance of international collaboration in infrastructural development.
The Prime Minister noted that today’s projects are a testament to the state's modern development and the brighter future that lies ahead for Maharashtra. He reflected on the previous delays in Mumbai Metro projects, which extended over 2.5 years and resulted in a cost overrun of Rs 14,000 crore, a burden shouldered by the taxpayers of Maharashtra. “The present state government is committed to making the development of Maharashtra its sole objective,” he asserted, pointing to the urgency of completing essential projects to benefit the local population.
Highlighting a suite of projects like the Versova to Bandra Sea Bridge Project, the Eastern Freeway, and the Thane-Borivali Tunnel, Modi underscored how these developments are poised to transform Mumbai's landscape. Not only will these initiatives address pressing transportation issues, but they are also expected to generate new employment opportunities and stimulate industrial growth in the region.
As these pivotal infrastructure projects begin to take shape, they promise to enhance the quality of life for millions of residents in Mumbai and Thane, paving the way for a modernized urban environment that meets the needs of its growing population. With these initiatives, the government is laying the foundation for a more connected, efficient, and sustainable future for Maharashtra.
