Prayagraj, India (Metro Rail Today): Before the Mahakumbh, the preparations for running the light metro in Sangam Nagri have intensified. The Prayagraj Development Authority (PDA) has given the responsibility of preparing the detailed project repot (DPR) to the Railway consultancy firm RITES Ltd. For this PDA will spend Rs 1.04 crore. The amount will be given to the RITES at the rate of Rs 4 lakh per kilometer.
For the convenience of tourists in Sangamnagari, light metro rail transit system will be operated for 44 kilometers urban rail network. The Uttar Pradesh Government will spend Rs 5,500 crore for this project and the first installment of about Rs 50 lakh will be paid to RITES Ltd for preparation of DPR within a month.
The cost of preparing the DPR will be Rs 4 lakh per kilometer. The first light metro will be operated on the route of Airport and Prayagraj Junction. Light Metro Rail system has been planned to operate from Bamrauli to Jhunsi Kanihar in the first phase. Its distance is fixed at about 23 kilometers.
Another route is proposed from Shantipuram to Chivki. The distance of this route is 21 kilometers. PDA Chief Engineer Neeraj Kumar Gupta said that approval has been received from the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited for the operation of the light metro. Now its operation will speed up. He told that preparations are being made to make some changes in the distance of the first route.
"Operation of light metro in Sangam city will be a big achievement for the city. The light metro should be made operational on time. This is being attempted. After the preparation of DPR, the process of laying the track will start," said Arvind Chauhan, Vice President, PDA.
