RITES submits DPR for ₹10,000 crore Jaipur Metro Phase 2

Jaipur, India (Metro Rail Today): The Rail India Technical and Economic Service (RITES), a government-owned enterprise, has submitted the draft Detailed Project Report (DPR) for Jaipur Metro Phase 2 Project to the Jaipur Metro Rail Corporation Limited (JMRC). The DPR outlines plans for a 40-kilometer corridor from Sitapura to Sikar Road, featuring 35 stations—34 elevated and one underground.

JMRC had awarded the DPR contract to RITES in November for approximately ₹4.6 crore. The draft report has been reviewed by Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma and his team, who have recommended changes related to the metro route and station locations. These suggestions will be incorporated into the final version of the DPR before it is submitted to the Union government for approval.

Following the central government's approval, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is expected to be signed to initiate the construction phase. Tenders for the project will be invited post-MoU, with the process expected to take three to four months.

According to the draft DPR, Jaipur Metro Phase 2 Project aims to significantly enhance the city’s public transport network, benefiting an estimated 2.5 million commuters. The estimated cost of the project is over ₹10,000 crore.

During a recent high-level review meeting, Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma emphasized the strategic importance of metro connectivity across key areas including Sitapura, Ambabari, and Vidyadhar Nagar. He directed officials to prioritize station locations based on future urban growth, commuter convenience, and integration with existing transport hubs like railway stations and airports.

“Metro stations should be easily accessible and strategically located to maximize usage and efficiency,” said Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma. “It is essential to accurately assess costs and ensure effective utilization of public funds.”

The Jaipur Metro Phase 2 project is a critical part of Rajasthan's broader infrastructure development plan aimed at reducing traffic congestion and accommodating the city’s growing population.
