New Delhi, India (Metro Rail Today): In a significant stride for the Indian Railways, Satish Kumar officially assumed the role of Member (Traction & Rolling Stock) in the Railway Board under the Ministry of Railways, effective from January 5, 2024. Mr. Kumar, a seasoned professional belonging to the 1986 batch of the Indian Railway Service of Mechanical Engineers, brings with him a wealth of experience accumulated over 34 years in the railway sector.
Prior to undertaking the responsibilities of Member (Traction & Rolling Stock), Railway Board, Satish Kumar served as the General Manager of North Central Railway, Prayagraj. His extensive career showcases a spectrum of roles, including stints in Jhansi Division, BLW (Diesel Locomotive Works, Varanasi), NER, Gorkahpur, and Patiala Locomotive Works. This diversity underscores his versatility and leadership in various capacities within the railway domain.
Throughout his career, Kumar has actively contributed to significant projects, utilizing his expertise in Total Quality Management acquired under the UNDP program in 1996. Notably, his tenure as Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of Lucknow Division on Northern Railway from April 2017 to April 2019 witnessed numerous infrastructural accomplishments, showcasing his commitment to progress.
Addressing officers during a meeting, Satish Kumar outlined his priorities, emphasizing a commitment to enhancing passenger facilities, continuous improvement in the passenger travel experience, and augmenting capacity for a significant leap in handling railway traffic.
