Siemens wins Signaling Contract of Kolkata Metro Line 3 & 6

Kolkata, India (Metro Rail Today): Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) on March 28, 2022, opened the financial bids for the supply & installation of CBTC-based Signalling Systems for Corridor 3 (Joka – Esplanade) and Corridor 6 (New Garia – Biman Bandar) of Kolkata Metro Rail Project.

As per the result of the financial bid, Siemens Ltd. emerged as the lowest bidder by beating Alstom Transport India.

The scope of work includes the Design, Manufacture, Supply, Installation, Testing and Commissioning of CBTC based Train Control and Signaling Systems and Telecommunication systems for Kavi Subhash – Biman Bandar Corridor (32kms) and Joka–Esplanade Metro Corridor (16kms) of Metro Railway Kolkata.

Tender notice for the above work was issued in February 2021 with an estimated cost of Rs 656 crores and 4 year (48 months) completion deadline. Technical bids were opened in January 2022. Only two bidders - Siemens Ltd and Alstom Transport - had submitted their bids.

On March 8, RVNL signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Indian Railways' Integral Coach Factory, Chennai for procuring CBTC-compliant 74 metro trains sets (74x4 = 296 coaches) for Corridor 3 & 6 of the Kolkata Metro Rail Project.

The under-construction Kolkata Metro Line 3 spans 15.246 kilometers from Joka in the South, to Esplanade in the North with an extension of 3.39 kilometers to Diamond Park from Joka.

Line 6 of the Kolkata Metro spans 29.87 kilometers and will connect New Garia with Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport via two satellite townsSalt lake and New Town.
