Singapore (Metro Rail Today): In a significant development, ST Engineering has announced its pivotal role in the upcoming Sydney Metro – Western Sydney Airport Line. The Urban Solutions division of ST Engineering is set to supply its cutting-edge AGIL Platform Screen Door (PSD) solution to all six stations along the 23-kilometer railway line, showcasing the company's prowess in the digital rail solutions sector.
ST Engineering Urban Solutions will be delivering a total of 54 sets of full-height PSDs and 54 sets of half-height PSDs, catering to a mix of elevated and underground stations. The commencement of the contracted scope has already taken place, with the installation of PSDs scheduled for the second quarter of 2025.
Chew Men Leong, President of Urban Solutions at ST Engineering, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, "Securing this Platform Screen Door contract speaks to the quality and reliability of our digital rail solutions, as well as the industry’s confidence in our capabilities." He further emphasized the significance of this win, marking the continued expansion of ST Engineering in the Australian rail market.
The AGIL PSD solution, designed by ST Engineering, is engineered to meet the heavy-duty requirements of the busiest rail stations globally and is built to withstand harsh weather conditions. Functioning as a safety barrier between the station platform and train track, the PSD enhances commuter safety and minimizes train delays caused by track intrusions.
ST Engineering Urban Solutions has been witnessing a growing global demand for its AGIL PSD solution. The company has recently been appointed to provide its PSD solution for the Ontario Line, a new rapid transit line in Toronto, Canada. This comes after the 2021 contract award for supplying PSDs for all four underground stations on the Cross River Rail in Queensland, Australia. With over 200 rail projects in more than 50 cities worldwide, ST Engineering Urban Solutions continues to establish its presence in the global rail solutions landscape.
The Sydney Metro – Western Sydney Airport Line holds strategic importance as it is poised to become the transport spine for Greater Western Sydney. Connecting communities and travelers with the new Western Sydney International Airport and the growing region, this city-shaping rail project will provide a major economic stimulus for Western Sydney. The collaborative effort between the Australian and NSW Governments aims to have the new metro line operational concurrently with the opening of Western Sydney International Airport for passenger service.
ST Engineering's Urban Solutions business securing the Platform Screen Door contract for the Sydney Metro – Western Sydney Airport Line underscores the company's commitment to delivering cutting-edge solutions for transformative transportation projects. With a track record spanning over 200 rail projects globally, ST Engineering continues to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of rail connectivity.
