Hyderabad, India (Metro Rail Today): In a significant move aimed at revolutionizing Hyderabad's public transportation system, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has given the green light to an extensive expansion plan for the second phase of the Hyderabad Metro Rail project. Fresh from a five-day foreign visit, the Chief Minister, on Monday, approved the comprehensive route map that will intricately connect the Shamshabad airport to the four corners of the bustling city.
Covering a substantial distance of 70 km in Phase 2, the newly proposed routes are strategically designed to offer seamless transportation options to people from all walks of life. According to insider sources, the expanded network is poised to provide hassle-free commuting solutions, catering to both the common citizen and affluent travelers alike.
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, recognizing the pressing need for enhanced connectivity and anticipating future demands for public transportation, has issued directives to expedite the Hyderabad Metro Rail project's expansion. The primary focus is on ensuring efficient airport connectivity from various areas and addressing the escalating traffic congestion concerns in the city.
In a bold move, Revanth Reddy has mandated the discontinuation of the airport Metro Rail routes proposed by the previous government, led by BRS. Citing the impracticality of the earlier plan, he highlighted that air passengers would have faced the inconvenience of first reaching Raidurg and then transferring to the previously proposed airport line.
Acting swiftly on Revanth Reddy's instructions, the Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) has devised a new route map. This expanded blueprint aims to stretch the Metro Rail network into untapped regions, ensuring connectivity to the airport and beyond. The underlying principle is to provide cost-effective public transportation to a larger segment of the population.
Sources reveal that the earlier proposed network by the BRS government would have incurred significant expenditure while catering to a limited demographic. There are indications that the previously suggested line from Raidurg to the airport was more aligned with real estate interests than the broader public welfare.
With these new routes, the Congress-led government is poised to fulfill its commitment to bringing Metro Rail services to a broader spectrum of society, especially targeting the economically disadvantaged and middle-class demographics. Presently, the Hyderabad Metro Rail spans 69 km across three corridors from Miyapur to LB Nagar, JBS to MGBS, and Nagole to Raidurgam.
In Phase 2, the network between Secunderabad Jubilee Bus Station to MGBS will extend further, reaching up to Chandrayangutta crossroads. Additionally, the metro rail network will burgeon with the inclusion of four new corridors, promising even more extensive coverage.
The approval of these expansive Metro Rail routes under Phase 2 reflects the government's commitment to revolutionizing public transportation for the benefit of all citizens. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy's visionary approach aims to address the growing demands of a burgeoning city while prioritizing cost-effective solutions and inclusive connectivity.
