Meerut, India (Metro Rail Today): Meerut's largest underground Namo Bharat station is being built at Begumpul, a major commercial hub in Meerut. The track has been laid for both lines (up and down) at this station, and finishing work is progressing rapidly in the final stages. Along with this, flooring, marble laying, and other tasks are also being carried out.
Begumpul is the only underground station in Meerut where passengers will have access to both Namo Bharat and Meerut Metro. Two tracks have been built at this station, where both trains will pass with the help of a state-of-the-art signaling system. This will be the first time in the country that the semi-high-speed Namo Bharat and Metro will be seen running on the same track. Technical rooms at the station have also been completed. Floor laying and other finishing works are being done at a rapid pace. AC ducts have also been installed for air conditioning. Along with this, the work of installing platform screen doors (PSDs) is also being carried out at a rapid pace. CCTV cameras will also be installed soon to monitor all activities in and around the station.
The length of Begumpul station is approximately 246 meters and the width is about 24.5 meters. The depth of the station is about 22 meters. Despite this depth, the convenience of passengers has been taken care of, and a total of 20 escalators have been provided at different places for movement from one level to another at each entry exit gate, out of which 13 have been installed.
This station has four levels: mezzanine, concourse, and platform levels, in addition to the ground level. The concourse level will have passenger facilities where passengers will be able to enter through the AFC gate after security checks. The platform level is an island type, where trains will be available to go in both directions.
Along with stairs, seven lifts will also be constructed at the station, out of which three are almost installed. NCRTC has also prepared stations for medical assistance. Each station has a lift that is large enough to carry stretchers, etc. if needed for medical assistance. Not only this but there is also a facility to carry stretchers on the train.
A large number of people come to Begumpul every day to buy essential goods. This station is located in the middle of the market, and the start of train operations will make it very convenient for people. People will be able to travel not only within Meerut city by Metro from Begumpul station but also to Ghaziabad or Delhi by Namo Bharat train.
Begumpul is the only underground station in Meerut that has 4 entry-exit gates so that passengers can easily enter the station from all sides. The first entry/exit gate has been constructed keeping in mind the people coming and going from Abu Lane. The second entry/exit gate is for people arriving from Sotiganj. The third entry-exit gate is towards National Inter College, while the last and fourth entry/exit gates have been constructed towards the Meerut Cantt area. Passengers will be able to enter the station from the four entry/exit gates being built around the station.
