Hanoi, Vietnam (Metro Rail Today): The North–South High-Speed Railway project has taken a significant step forward, with the Ministry of Construction confirming that it has received proposals from 13 companies seeking to participate in the ambitious corridor. The interested parties include domestic firms, international companies, and joint ventures, reflecting strong global and local interest in one of the region’s most transformative infrastructure projects.
As of now, authorities are in the process of preparing the project’s feasibility study, a crucial phase that will evaluate technical parameters, financial viability, and potential investment models. The ministry stated that if the project is implemented under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) framework or other commercial investment arrangements, eligible companies will be formally notified and invited to submit applications in line with prevailing regulations.
The project is being guided by Government Resolution No. 106/NQ-CP, issued on April 23, 2025, which lays out a clear roadmap for implementation. The resolution mandates that all necessary conditions must be fulfilled to enable the start of construction no later than December 31, 2026, underscoring the government’s urgency in advancing the high-speed rail agenda.
Length: Approximately 1,541 km
Design Speed: Up to 350 kmph
Axle Load Capacity: 22.5 tonnes
Stations: 23 passenger stations
Freight Facilities: 5 freight depots
A notable feature of the North–South High-Speed Railway is its dual-use design philosophy. The infrastructure and rolling stock systems are being planned to support both civilian and national defence logistics, including the capability to handle freight and strategic cargo transport when required. This approach enhances not only mobility and economic efficiency but also national resilience.
Commenting on the development, Mrs. Mamta Shah, MD & CEO, Urban Infra Group, said: “The strong response from domestic and international companies highlights the strategic importance of the North–South High-Speed Railway. Projects of this scale are not just about speed; they are about economic integration, technology transfer, and long-term national capability. A well-structured PPP or commercial model can unlock global expertise while ensuring timely delivery and sustainability.”
With feasibility studies underway and policy clarity in place, the North–South High-Speed Railway is steadily moving from vision to execution. The coming months will be critical as authorities finalise investment frameworks and formally engage with interested companies, setting the stage for one of the most consequential rail infrastructure projects in the region.
