Andhra Pradesh proposes Bullet Train Link to connect Amaravati International Airport

Vijayawada, India (Metro Rail Today): In a visionary move to position Amaravati as a major hub for rail and logistics in Andhra Pradesh, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has proposed a bullet train connection linking the upcoming Amaravati International Airport with high-speed corridors connecting Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Chennai.

During a high-level review meeting held at the Secretariat, the Chief Minister emphasized the strategic importance of integrating Amaravati with India’s emerging high-speed rail grid, calling for the inclusion of Tirupati in the Chennai–Bengaluru corridor to strengthen regional connectivity and economic growth.

Naidu reviewed the progress of ongoing railway infrastructure projects worth ₹33,630 crore across the state, including:

  • Nadikudi–Srikalahasti Line

  • Guntur–Guntakal Line

  • Gunadala–Mustabad Bypass

  • Renigunta Line

  • Rayadurg–Tumakuru Line

He directed officials to immediately release ₹27 crore for expediting work on the Nadikudi–Srikalahasti stretch and instructed that train services commence on the Kotipalli–Narsapur route, including the Kakinada–Kotipalli–Amalapuram section.

The Chief Minister also approved land allocation for new coaching terminals at Amaravati and Gannavaram, while expansion projects are in progress at Vijayawada and Guntur stations.

Naidu underscored the vital role of rail connectivity to new ports in supporting Andhra Pradesh’s logistics ambitions. The state will collaborate with the central government to develop an Integrated Logistics Park, with improved rail links to key ports including Mulapeta, Visakhapatnam, Kakinada, and Ramayapatnam to streamline freight movement.

He also reviewed proposals for a Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) connecting Kharagpur to Chennai, as part of efforts to transform Andhra Pradesh into a major logistics corridor with enhanced north–south and east–west rail connectivity.

Naidu instructed officials to ensure that Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Tirupati, and Amaravati railway stations are developed as iconic passenger hubs featuring world-class facilities.

  • The Amaravati station will feature innovative architecture symbolizing the state’s modern identity.

  • Vijayawada station will undergo swift redevelopment, including the construction of a pedestrian skywalk at Tirupati for pilgrim convenience.

  • Gnanapuram side development at Visakhapatnam station will help ease congestion, while Nellore and Rajamahendravaram are also being upgraded.

  • Under the Amrit Stations Scheme, 73 stations across Andhra Pradesh are being modernized, and 373 new railway over- and under-bridges are planned.

Naidu further directed that visible transformation of major stations be completed by December 2025, ahead of the Godavari Pushkaralu festival.

During the meeting, Naidu stressed,

“Andhra Pradesh must position itself as India’s logistics powerhouse. Integrating Amaravati into the national high-speed rail and freight networks will not only drive economic growth but also attract global investment to the region.”

Mrs. Mamta Shah, MD & CEO of Urban Infra Group and Managing Editor of Metro Rail Today, praised the initiative, stating:

“Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu’s proposal to link Amaravati with high-speed rail and the new international airport reflects true foresight. Integrating passenger and freight corridors under a unified logistics vision will unlock immense opportunities for Andhra Pradesh and set a benchmark for smart, sustainable infrastructure development in India.”
