BEML wins ₹3,176 crore Rolling Stock contract for Phase 2 of Bangalore Metro

Bengaluru, India (Metro Rail Today): The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRC) has opened financial bids for procurement of 318 new metro coaches (rolling stock) for Phase 2 of Bangalore Metro Rail Project on 19th May 2023 in Bengaluru.

As per the financial bid results, state-owned public sector undertaking Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) emerged as the lowest bidder to supply metro coaches for Phase 2, 2A & 2B corridors of Bangalore Metro Rail Project. The financial position of each bidder is as under:-

  • BEML Ltd: Rs 3,176.43 crore (L1)
  • Alstom Transport India Ltd: Rs 3,821.01 crore (L2)
  • Titagarh Wagons Ltd: Rs 4,686.14 crore (L3)
  • CAF: Rs 4,757.34 crore (L4)

The bidders have quoted their rates in combination of INR + EURO + USD + JPY. Now all bids have been sent for final evaluation of bidders.

Tender notice for Design, Manufacture, Supply, Installation, Testing and Commissioning of 318 Nos. of Standard Gauge Metro Cars and Training of Personnel upto fifteen (15) years under Bangalore Metro Rail Project Phase-2, 2A and 2B was issued in September 2022. Technical bids were opened in February this year.

According to plan, the coaches to be procured under this contract package will be used for different corridors of Bangalore Metro as under:-

  • 96 coaches (16 trains with 6 coaches): Pink Line (Kalena Agrahara – Nagawara, 21.386 km) - Phase 2
  • 96 coaches (16 trains with 6 coaches): Blue Line (Silk Board – KR Puram, 18.2 km) - Phase 2A
  • 126 coaches (21 trains with 6 coaches): Blue Line  (KR Puram – Airport, 37 km) - Phase 2B

This contract package will be funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) under the loan agrement signed for Rs 3,717 crores in March 2021 to Rolling Stock, CBTC Signaling and Platform Screen Doors for Phase 2 of Bangalore Metro Rail Project.
