BMRCL awards Key Station Finishing Contracts for 56 km Bangalore Metro Blue Line

Bengaluru, India (Metro Rail Today): In a significant development for the Bangalore Metro, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (BMRCL) has awarded two major station finishing contracts for its highly anticipated Blue Line. These contracts, which cover the 56 km Phase 2A and 2B of the metro network, are crucial to completing the city's new Blue Line, set to connect Silkboard, KR Puram, and Bengaluru International Airport with 30 stations.

Key Contracts and Details

  • MR Constructions was awarded the Station Finishing Package A1 on December 16, with a contract value of Rs. 65.57 crore. This package includes finishing work for six elevated stations: Central Silk Board, HSR Layout, Agara, Ibbalur, Bellandur, and Kadubeesanahalli, all of which are currently under construction by Afcons Infrastructure.

  • Godrej & Boyce Mfg. Co. Ltd. was awarded Station Finishing Package A2 on November 8, with a contract value of Rs. 66.77 crore. This package covers finishing work for seven elevated stations: Kodibeesanahalli, Marathahalli, ISRO, Doddanekundi, DRDO Sports Complex, Saraswathi Nagar (Mahadevpura), and KR Puram. These stations are under construction by Shankaranarayana Constructions (SNC).

The two packages are part of the 19 km ORR Line (Phase 2A) of the Blue Line, which is one of the two segments under development for the Bangalore Metro's Blue Line, the other being Phase 2B (37 km Airport Line).

Timeline and Progress

Both contracts are set to be completed within 16 months. These developments are vital to the overall timeline of Phase 2A, which is expected to open no sooner than Q4 2026, with some delays likely pushing it further into 2027.

While construction progresses steadily, the Blue Line will likely face delays related to rolling stock, particularly as the first batch of trains from BEML’s local Bengaluru complex is expected to serve the more advanced Pink Line (21.38 km), which is set to open sooner. The first of 53 trains for the Pink Line is slated to roll out in Q4 2025, potentially delaying the availability of trains for the Blue Line.

Future Prospects for Bangalore's Metro Network

Once complete, the Blue Line will be a game-changer for Bangalore's public transportation, offering faster, more efficient travel between key hubs like the city center, IT corridors, and the airport. The Blue Line’s development is a significant part of the larger Bangalore Metro expansion plan, expected to reshape urban mobility in the city in the coming years.

Stay tuned for more updates on the Bangalore Metro Blue Line’s progress as it moves closer to transforming the city's transit landscape.
