Chennai, India (Metro Rail Today): Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) is developing a train maintennace depot - cum - workshop building at Madhavaram at a cost of Rs 284.51 crore on an area of 48.89 acres as part of the Chennai Metro Rail Project Phase-II.
"The Madhavaram Depot is being built to accommodate 110 metro trains, each with three coaches. A total of 24 track lines are being built, including 10 for the stabling yard, 7 for the workshop bay and deep clean bay, and 7 for the inspection bay. On these tracks, 110 metro trains can be stopped. In addition, a 1.4-kilometer test track line will be built," said statement.
The Depot will be used for metro train maintenance and cleaning. The Madhavaram Depot construction is expected to be completed by the end of 2024. CMRL's Managing Director stated this during a visit to the Madhavaram Depot.
In December 2021, CMRL had awarded a contract amounting to Rs 284.51 crore to URC Construction fpr construction of metro train depot with administration & workshop buildings at Madhavaram Milk Colony include civil, MEP, roofing, signage, architectural finishes, STP, external drainage, internal roads, boundary wall and all associated works.
The Madhavaram depot will feed metro trains for 47 km Corridor-5 of Chennai Metro Phase-II connecting Madhavaram Milk Colony to Sholinganallur with 48 stations, out of which 6 are underground, 1 at grade and 41 are elevated.
M.A. Siddique, Managing Director of CMRL today carried inspection of Madhavaram Depot site. He was accompanied by T. Archunan, Director (Projects), Chief General Manager B.S. Srinivas (Arbitration), Team Leader Tony Burchell (GC1), Package Head Durga Prasad (GC1), Manager P. Venkatreddy (Civil), and other Senior Officials.
