CMRL invites bids for preparation of DPRs for two new Chennai Metro Extension Corridors

Chennai, India (Rail & Metro Today): Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has invited bids from eligible and experienced consultancy firms for the preparation of Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for two proposed Metro Rail extensions aimed at strengthening connectivity across the Chennai Metropolitan Area.

The consultancy assignments cover extensions under Chennai Metro Corridor 1 and Corridor 5, with the DPRs expected to assess the technical, financial, operational, environmental and socio-economic feasibility of the proposed corridors.

DPR for Kilambakkam–Chengalpattu Metro Extension

Under the first tender, CMRL is seeking consultancy services for preparation of a Detailed Project Report for extending Metro Rail from the proposed Kilambakkam Metro Station to Chengalpattu.

The proposed extension is expected to strengthen mass rapid transit connectivity towards southern Chennai and improve access to the rapidly developing areas along the Chennai–Chengalpattu growth corridor.

The consultancy assignment will have a contract duration of 120 days. The appointed consultant will be responsible for undertaking the necessary studies and preparing the DPR to establish the project's overall feasibility.

DPR for Assisi Nagar–Wimco Nagar Extension

The second tender relates to the preparation of a DPR for the proposed extension of Chennai Metro Corridor 5 from Assisi Nagar to Wimco Nagar.

The extension is intended to further expand the reach of the Chennai Metro network in the northern part of the metropolitan region and improve connectivity between residential, commercial and employment centres.

The consultancy contract for this assignment will also have a 120-day completion period.

Chennai Metro DPR Tender Schedule

CMRL has outlined the following schedule for the two consultancy tenders. Tender documents will be available on the Central Public Procurement Portal (CPP Portal) from August 3, 2026.

The pre-bid meeting is scheduled for August 13, 2026, at 11:00 hours. The last date for submission of bids is September 7, 2026, at 15:00 hours, while the technical bids will be opened on the same day at 15:30 hours.

Consultancy firms interested in participating have been advised to download the Notice Inviting Tender (NIT) and detailed tender documents through the official CMRL procurement channels.

Focus on Future-Ready Urban Mobility

The preparation of the two DPRs will provide CMRL with detailed assessments required to determine the feasibility and implementation requirements of the proposed extensions.

The studies are expected to examine key parameters including alignment options, passenger demand, traffic and transport patterns, engineering requirements, project costs, environmental considerations, land requirements, construction feasibility and socio-economic benefits.

The DPRs will subsequently provide the basis for evaluating the proposed extensions and determining their suitability for further development and approvals.

The proposed extensions are part of Chennai's broader effort to expand its mass rapid transit infrastructure and create an integrated, sustainable and future-ready urban mobility network.

Consultancy Firms Invited to Participate

CMRL has invited reputed consultancy organisations with demonstrated experience in Metro Rail planning, transport engineering, infrastructure development and preparation of DPRs to participate in the tender process.

With Chennai continuing to expand its Metro network, the two consultancy assignments could provide an important foundation for future extensions and help improve regional connectivity across the Chennai Metropolitan Area.

The tender documents and Notice Inviting Tender are available through the official Chennai Metro Rail Limited and CPP Portal procurement platforms.
