New Delhi, India (Metro Rail Today): In a pioneering move towards integrating railway and metro travel experiences, IRCTC, DMRC, and CRIS have collaborated to launch the 'One India – One Ticket' initiative in the Delhi NCR region. This initiative aims to streamline and enhance the convenience of travel for passengers using both mainline railways and the Delhi Metro.
Under the 'One India – One Ticket' initiative, passengers can now book Delhi Metro QR code-based tickets directly through the IRCTC website and mobile app. This integration allows for advanced booking of metro tickets up to 120 days, synchronized with Indian Railways' Advance Reservation Period (ARP). The tickets remain valid for a period of four days, covering the day before the journey, the journey date itself, and two days after.
The beta version of the Delhi Metro Rail QR code-based ticket was launched recently, marking the initial phase of this collaborative effort. This version enables mainline railway passengers to seamlessly book DMRC tickets through the IRCTC platform. Officials from IRCTC and DMRC have indicated that upon successful testing and feedback, the full version will be launched shortly.
This joint initiative aims to significantly improve the travel experience for railway passengers in Delhi NCR by integrating metro ticket booking into the railway ticketing process. Passengers can book metro tickets either at the time of initial railway ticket booking or later through the booking history page on the IRCTC platform. The inclusion of DMRC QR codes in the Electronic Reservation Slip of IRCTC ensures ease of access and convenience for passengers.
The 'One India – One Ticket' initiative not only simplifies travel planning but also reduces the need for separate ticket purchases and long queues at metro stations. It promotes digitalization, environmental sustainability, and efficiency in transportation systems. Flexible cancellation policies further enhance passenger convenience, making travel more seamless and hassle-free.
The collaboration between IRCTC, DMRC, and CRIS in introducing QR code-based ticketing marks a significant step towards integrating India's railway and metro networks. As this initiative progresses from beta to full implementation, it is expected to set a new standard in convenience and efficiency for commuters in Delhi NCR. By leveraging technology and innovation, the initiative underscores the commitment to enhancing passenger experience and promoting sustainable urban mobility.
