New Delhi, India (Metro Rail Today): In a significant stride towards expanding the Delhi-Meerut-Ghaziabad Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridor, a trial run of Namo Bharat trains has commenced beyond the Priority Section. After the successful operation of the initial segment, the focus now shifts to testing the track and traction in the section from Duhai to Modi Nagar South. This trial run marks a pivotal step towards making this stretch operational for the public.
To initiate the trial run, the electric Over Head Equipment (OHE) was charged with 25 KV capacity from Murad Nagar Receiving Sub Station to Modi Nagar South. Following this, the Namo Bharat train embarked on its journey, starting from Duhai station, traversing Murad Nagar station, and covering approximately 12 km to reach Modi Nagar South.
Currently, the Namo Bharat trains are undergoing meticulous testing of the track and traction. Initially, the train is operating manually under the Train Control Management System, ensuring a thorough evaluation of its performance. The trial run involves the train moving at a minimal speed from Muradnagar station to Modi Nagar South and returning to Duhai, gradually increasing its speed.
The upcoming 25 km stretch between Duhai and Meerut South RRTS station is the subsequent phase of the corridor set to be operationalized after the Priority Section. This stretch encompasses four stations: Murad Nagar, Modi Nagar North, Modi Nagar South, and Meerut South. The viaduct construction up to Meerut South was completed in June, and since then, various essential works, including track laying, OHE installation, signalling, telecom, and electrical, have been progressing rapidly. Track laying is nearing completion, with final stages underway for other crucial components. The Muradnagar Receiving Sub Station is prepared to supply electricity from Murad Nagar to Meerut South, with plans to charge the OHE between Modi Nagar North and Meerut South stations for subsequent trial runs.
In a momentous occasion on October 20, 2023, the Honorable Prime Minister inaugurated the Namo Bharat train in the 17 km long Priority Section between Sahibabad and Duhai Depot. With this successful launch, the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) is now gearing up to extend operations beyond the initial segment.
In conclusion, the trial run from Duhai to Modi Nagar South signifies a significant step forward in the progressive expansion of the RRTS corridor. As the NCRTC meticulously tests and prepares for the upcoming operationalization, the integration of advanced rail transit continues to reshape the commuting landscape in the Delhi-NCR region.
