Ghaziabad, India (Metro Rail Today): National Capital Region Transport Corporation Limited (NCRTC) has formally opened the Duhai Train Maintenance Depot with state-of the-art facilties for the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridor on 6th March 2023. This depot is the first one that has been built for the RRTS project, which will connect Jungpura in Delhi to Meerut in Uttar Pradesh with semi high speed state-of-the-art trains being supplied by Alstom.
“The Dubai depot has many features such as controlling RRTS train operations in Delhi, Ghaziabad and Meerut. This depot will hande all such tain operations till the second depot comes up at Modipuram in Meerut in March 2025. Besides these two depots, a stabling yard is also scheduled to come up at Jungpura in Delhi.” said Puneet Vats, chief public relations officer, NCRTC, HT reported.
According to NCRTC, the 17-km priority section of the 82.15 km Delhi-Meerut RRTS Corridor in Ghaziabad is likely to start operations from next month. The Duhai Depot is one of the facilities that has been developed as part of five stations namely Anand Vihar, Duhai, Guldhar, Ghaziabad and Sahibabad on the priority section.
The Dubai train maintennace depot is equiped with administration buildings, workshops and inspection bay lines, which have been created in less than two years. A total of six RRTS train sets have now been assembled in the Duhai depot.
"The command and control centre will become fully operational once it is integrated with signalling. The Duhai depot will also handle train operations on 17-km priority section," Vats said.
The Duhai depot is equiped with 11 stabling lines (SBLs), two workshop lines, three inspection bay lines (IBLs) and one heavy external cleaning line. Apart from this, the depot has test track, train maintenance workshop, automatic coach washing plant, backup control centre, depot control centre and administrative building.
The depot control centre which is part of administrative building plans arrival and departure of trains from the depot to mainline (vise-versa).
Till the construction of second depot at Modipuram, Duhai depot will support train operations for the entire Delhi-Meerut RRTS corridor.
The Duhai depot cum Workshop is constructed by Vijay Nirman Company and KEC International Limited under Package 5A.
