Patna, India (Metro Rail Today): In a significant step towards improving urban transportation, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday oversaw the third emergence of the Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) for the Patna Metro Rail Project. The event took place in front of Buddha Smriti Park, near Patna Junction, marking a major milestone in the construction of the underground metro line. CM Kumar initiated the process by pressing a button, signaling the TBM's emergence from the depths of the metro tunnel.
During the review, Abhay Kumar Singh, Secretary of the Urban Development and Housing Department, briefed the CM about the ongoing progress of the project. Singh highlighted the construction of Corridor 2, particularly the 6.1 km priority section, which connects Malahi Pakri to Patliputra Bus Terminal. The priority section, passing through Khemnichak, Bhootnath Road, and Zero Mile, is set to be completed and operational by August 15, 2025.
Work on the underground portion of Corridor 2, which spans 14.5 km and includes 12 stations, commenced on November 21, 2023, from Gandhi Maidan. The TBM, which began at Gandhi Maidan, has successfully reached Patna Junction via Akashvani.
CM Nitish Kumar visited the site near Patna Junction during the inspection, stressing the importance of completing the project on time to ensure smoother and faster commuting for Patna residents. He directed officials to accelerate the pace of construction to avoid any delays.
"I have been continuously inspecting the work to ensure there are no obstacles. I have directed the officials to ensure the timely completion of the Patna Metro Rail project to facilitate ease of movement for people," said CM Kumar.
With the ongoing construction, Patna is on track to witness a transformative shift in its public transportation system, making it more accessible and efficient for the growing population.
