Bengaluru, India (Metro Rail Today): NCC Ltd. and Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd. (RVNL) have each put forth bids for the civil construction of critical components within the Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project (BSRP). Specifically, they have submitted proposals for Packages C4A and C4B, which encompass the construction of 18 stations along Corridor 4 of the project, also known as the Kanaka Line.
The Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project aims to enhance connectivity across the city, covering a total distance of 149.35 kilometers. Corridor 4, which is the focus of these packages, spans 46.88 kilometers and connects Heelalige to Rajanukunte. This segment will feature a blend of infrastructure, including two elevated stations and sixteen at-grade stations.
In July 2024, Karnataka’s Rail Infrastructure Development Company (K-RIDE) issued tenders for these contracts, with a stipulated completion period of two years. The technical bids for these packages were opened recently, revealing that both NCC and RVNL had submitted bids for each package. Notably, RVNL’s bid for these packages is in joint venture with Rithwik Projects, as reported by sources.
For Package C4A, estimated at ₹504.11 crore, the scope of work includes the construction of nine stations along Corridor-4A. This involves one elevated station and eight at-grade stations located in areas such as Heelalige, Singena Agrahara, Huskur, Ambedkar Nagar, Carmelaram, Bellandur, Marathahalli, Doddanakundi, and Kaggadasapura. The project scope encompasses all civil and structural works, including the construction of entry and exit structures, steel foot overbridges (FOBs), roof structures, pre-engineered buildings (PEB), architectural finishes, and electrical and mechanical works, along with detailed design and engineering.
Similarly, Package C4B, with an estimated cost of ₹528.05 crore, covers the design and construction of nine stations along Corridor-4B. These stations are situated in Channasandra, Horamavu, Hennur, Thanisandra, R.K. Hegdenagar, Jakkur, Yelahanka, Muddanahalli, and Rajankunte. The scope for this package mirrors that of C4A, including all associated civil, structural, and design work.
The Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project’s Corridor-4 will intersect with the Bangalore Metro's Blue Line (Phase 2B), creating a shared alignment of approximately 500 meters between Benniganahalli and Channasandra. This integration underscores the project’s significance in enhancing urban transit infrastructure.
Currently, all four bids are under technical evaluation, a process that may take several months to complete. Following this, the financial bids of the technically qualified bidders will be reviewed to determine the lowest bidder and the likely contractor for each package.
In December 2023, Larsen & Toubro (L&T) was awarded a substantial contract worth Rs. 1040.51 crore to construct the viaduct and at-grade embankments for these 18 stations, marking a significant step forward in the development of the Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project.
