Lucknow, India (Metro Rail Today): The Railway Design and Standards Organization (RDSO) announced the appointment of Uday Borwanker as its new Director General on 2nd August 2024. Mr. Borwanker, an IRSME officer from the 1988 batch, succeeds Shri Ajay Kumar Rana, who has retired.
Before this appointment, Mr. Borwanker served as the Principal Chief Mechanical Engineer in Western Railway. With over three decades of experience, he has held various pivotal positions across Central Railway, Western Railway, South East Central Railway, West Central Railway, and the Railway Board. His career also includes significant contributions during his deputation to the Ministry of Mines and Maha Metro.
Mr. Borwanker’s extensive experience encompasses production, operation, and maintenance of rolling stock, as well as the management of large railway divisions. He has previously served as Additional Divisional Railway Manager in Nagpur and Divisional Railway Manager in Bhopal. His career is marked by his leadership in environment management, quality control, and skill development.
Mr. Borwanker has undergone advanced training at prestigious institutions, including the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmedabad, Indian School of Business (ISB) Hyderabad, Bocconi School of Management in Italy, and the University of Sciences in Graz, Austria.
Mr. Borwanker’s appointment as Director General of RDSO is expected to bring a wealth of knowledge and a strategic vision to the organization. His broad experience across various railway sectors and high-level training position him well to drive RDSO’s objectives and further enhance its operational effectiveness.
This leadership transition at RDSO marks a significant step in the organization’s ongoing efforts to improve railway design and standards, aligning with the broader goals of advancing India’s railway infrastructure.
